First time poster. Family made a tour of College Station this weekend. Really loved the Culture, Tradition and Engineering Dept. My son my had a desire to be a part of the military academy. He was accepted into the USAFA and interviewed with West Point multiple times. After acceptance to The USAFA he stopped looking anywhere else and was excited for the opportunity. In late April the academy rescinded the acceptance, all schools actually, disqualified him for a small health concern. Kid is super healthy and disciplined in eating habits and working out. This is all background info of course but after the reroute he has decided to join the Aggie family and the Core of Cadets. My question is he is an out of state student. Joining the Core will waive all out of state fees.
How difficult is it to get other financial scholarships. He plans to apply August 1 for the spring semester. He was a straight A cat all through high school. Lettered in Football, Golf and Track. Earned Valedictorian of his class and is just a dang fine kid who believes in eye to eye conversation and handshakes. Old school politeness to the core.He really fell in Love with the school. It was an amazing time for us all and He has that light in his eye after all the military misfortune.
I believe he has the merit to be accepted but wondering with that size of school how generous the university and core is with financial assistance in the form of scholarship. Appreciate any and all comments.

You should contact the Corps of Cadets and inquire about scholarship opportunities just through them. Also, you should look into ROTC scholarships if his medical issue does not disqualify him. The kind of kid who can get an academy acceptance can probably compete well for a 4-year ROTC scholarship (assuming he hasn't missed some key application deadline). You might want to cross-post this on the military board.

I don't know anything about general scholarships that might be available.

Buck's advice is good. As far as general scholarships, they are extremely limited and even moreso for OOS. Your best bet is working the corps angle and even that will likely be tight

Reach out to the Corps office directly. The max Corps scholarship is $4k per year but the key is that is the same amount you need for In State tuition so in reality it is significantly higher. It's not easy to get but your son sounds like he has a strong background. Other options are National Merit, Financial need based scholarships, or ROTC scholarships. Good luck!

I had the AFROTC full-ride-with-commission scholarship. If he got into the academy, he could certainly get that.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

What was said about checking with the Corps is spot on. I would also check with the engineering department.

My daughter was not in the Corps, but was instate and top in her high school and had her first year tuition waived and a small scholarship. A&M seems to give more scholarships to first generation college students and national merit awards.
