Looking for some advice. I am a recent grad and accepted a sales role at a Fortune 500 company here in Texas. I had to apply for a corporate AMEX card for travel to see clients and whatnot, but I was declined. There are no good excuses, I do have some debt and my credit is not fantastic.

I am worried that I will be fired if I am not eligible for a company card since travel is a huge requirement.

Does anyone have any experience going through this?

Call the ANEX resonsideration line. At the very least, they will give you the specific reason why you were rejected.

If they won't reconsider initially, your employer might let you use a personal card and reimburse you that way. The benefit is that you can build your credit faster, and prove to them you're responsible. As your credit improves, you reapply for AMEX card down the line.

I've worked in the credit card industry for almost 25 years including 12 years with American Express. Generally what will happen is your employer will guarantee your card for you and while it feels like a huge deal to you I can promise you it's not the first time it's happened to them. If that is not their policy they will have you use a personal card and get reimbursed.
