I recently dipped my toe into the trading card world, and it's pretty ridiculous in a lot of ways. But over the weekend I went to a card show and bought a "wax box" of 1990 NFL Pro Set cards for $20. Dirt cheap for 36 packs of 14 cards. I don't think any of the cards have any real monetary value, so they're cheap.

But it is really fun ripping those open and walking down memory lane! Finding a Tom Landry card, and a Joe Montana….awesome.

Wanted to pass that along as a fun little thing for a football fan from that time frame!

I remember those. Emmitt Smith rookie cards were in 1990 Pro Set.

I've got a ton of those cards from the 90s. I have about 50,000 cards and most of them are junk wax from early 80s to mid 90s. I quit collecting when I went to college in 93 and picked back up about 5 years ago. The hobby has certainly changed but I enjoy it.

I am a partner in a card shop, I sell at card shows every other weekend. I picked up a John David Crow rookie card in Frisco this past weekend for $5. My PC is Aggies and Rangers and all years Nolan Ryan. I keep it simple and don't spend much personal money but I get some cool stuff that walks in to the shop.

I have a Walter Payton rookie card that I actually got as a kid in a plain old pack. Just got lucky. And thankfully, I was one of those kids who was very careful with my cards.

I am amazed that card shops still exist. I spent MANY of hours at my local shop and shows back in mid 80's

Where's your shop located? Going to the Dallas (Allen) show this weekend?

My shop is in North Dakota but I live in E TX so I set up at card shows in the area. I'm in the Dallas area 4 or 5 times a year. I haven't set up at the Dallas show but I'm usually there buying and selling. Planning to be there Sunday this week.

Card shop in SoCo is legit. Always a group in there on the weekends. They have all the games on. If they served alcohol, I'd probably never leave.

I have over 20,000. Collected through the 1980s. I went to Alaska in 89 for the summer between my junior and senior year of high school working the fishing boats and made like 5000. Used a bunch of it on collecting cards. I figure one day I'll see what they are worth. Tons of rookie cards like Rice, Montana, Marino, Barry sanders, etc. mostly Tops but I have those proset cards too. I have a Score Barry Sanders rookie. That one and Rice are my favorite ones to ever find in a packet.

Opening those packets and hitting on a rookie card was always fun.

I didn't take care of my cards. I used to set up my cards and play games with them. All my best cards from probably 75 to 81 are bent up and used.

For years I've regretted doing that but as I type that, I have to admit that playing with those cards was a pretty good memory. I've done nothing with the cards I've purchased since 1987 or so.
i do really regret cutting up my DR J, Bird, Magic basketball card that has them all on it.

I used to shop at the card shop in Tower Point CS but they have gotten ridiculous. They overvalue their cards and themselves, at least one of the owners does.

Went in there for the last time last week and after seeing how they treated their customers, I left.

I literally opened cases of 89 Score football in 1989. Cases not boxes.
Fun times

now the hobby is just gambling and money laundering

I sell a lot of cards on eBay. I buy collections around Houston, parse them out, grade some and list the rest raw on eBay.

It's still a great hobby and for me a wonderful way to step away from the stress of life

I have some old Beckett magazines that I'm trying to get rid of.

Also a ton of bulk 2020-2022 football and basketball.
