This is really cool. At scale, if it can get up to cellphone or laptop size, think of the boom in never needed to recharge electronics. A flashlight that doesn't die. A pacemaker or artificial heart/organ that can outlive the patent. If they can find a stable isotope that can scale up to say tesla size, we get minority reports cars!

Old news, they've been in the Fallout franchise for decades!

This is cool, can you sell the dead battery for copper scrap?

> The innovation is a small coin-sized battery powered by a radioactive nickel isotope that decays into stable copper

#1 use case...smoke detectors! The battery might outlive the americium in the detector!

Even older news, Asimov was writing about nuclear-powered handheld devices in the 50s.

Got a nice hoard of fusion cores at Sanctuary.

To heck with cars, give me one I can hook up to my house and go off grid.

Nuclear Microreactors/Small Modular Reactors are the future there i think. Not batteries. Still a long ways off though to scale them down to individual homes.

Yeah... but for a nuclear battery, they sure don't last very long.

So, how useful is a 100-microwatt battery? I suppose putting 10,000 in parallel gives you a whole 1 amp, but it isn't exactly compact at that point

Not a ton but one of the latest WAN shows covered this battery and mentioned the company is working on a 1w version now.
