I need to get a new screen protector and was wondering what you all think is the best out there? The last one I had was Zagg and had no complaints with it. They vary from $18 to $35 to $59 on Amazon. Are there any others that actually protect well but for a much lower price? I see a 3-pack made by Ailun for like $8. Anyone ever heard of them? Listed on Amazon as a 'Best Seller'

Ailuns are fine, I've used several they give a little tray to help put it on. I last ordered amFilm auto alignments and they've worked great.

One thing to consider is whether you want a normal 'glossy' screen protector vs. a matte finish. I've been really happy with the following matte protector:

It takes a little getting used to touch wise but makes it much easier to see the screen outside in bright sun.

One gotcha, I ordered the same thing for my wife's iphone 11 (we hold on to our phones for a long time) and was surprised it didn't come with any sort of snap-on alignment guide. I just had to align it manually so it took an extra minute or so to put it on.

My screen protector fell off a few years ago, and I didn't even notice it for months. I have not replaced it and still have no scratches on my phone.

Are they really necessary anymore?

I use AMfilm on everything. Applicator is idiot proof and dirt cheap on Amazon.

I've never been a believer in screen protectors. Gorilla Glass is A LOT stronger than whatever cheap-o screen protector from amazon you're going to throw on there.

My conspiracy theory, not really based on anything other than gut feeling, is that screen protectors are made to break somewhat easily, so when the screen protector cracks and your phone is fine you think "Wow, the screen protector saved my phone" when you're phone would have been fine all along with no protector. And then you keep buying them...

Unless you want one with a matte finish or privacy filter, i wouldn't bother.

Look around next time you're in public. Half the people on their phone have cracked screens. Tempered glass protectors remain necessary.
