Where is everyone getting their hard drives these days? I need a 24 TB or so hard drive for my NAS, and already know that I am going to pay very high prices, but a) I don't think prices are coming down any time soon and b) I don't have the time to wait anyway.

So, if there are any places that any knows that might offer even a slightly better deal on them, I would appreciate the help.

Everywhere has limits unless you're an business. I would suggest getting any refurbished drives on Amazon since they'll be most likely the cheapest and return the ones that don't work. You can only order 3 at an time for some brands this is what I did for my 48tb raid 6 nas for 8 hdd. Newegg isn't bad either but you can only get one at an time.

I've heard good things about serverpartdeals.com for quality refurbished drives. Haven't needed to buy any from there yet (knocking on wood), but like everything right now it's all about watching for any deals on brands/models/sizes you want and buying them when you see them.

I've just finished returning my 4th refurbed drive from Amazon - it is so frustrating. But, they do seem to be the least expensive, and the UPS store is on my way to work, so at least the returns are easy.

Serverpartdeals is something I will keep an eye on as well.

Thanks to both of you!

Are the used ones on Amazon dead on arrival or fail after you've had them for a while?

I have purchased 5 drives from Server Part Deals. None have issues. Manufacturer Recertified.

I bought a 12tb and 14tb drive from goharddrive on eBay, they're still going strong. But I don't put a ton of hours on them, they're basically redundant backups on my PCs.

I got curious and they've tripled in cost since I bought them last year. Oof.

DOA. I even brought them in to my IT department to verify.

Microcenter has 24 tb hard drives for $850 in stock.

I'm glad I built my NAS last year before this craziness.

No damn lie....the extra 18TB WD Red Pro that's sitting on the shelf as a backup right now that I bought on sale for $250 is starting to feel like a part of my home equity.

ServerPartDeals is good and GoHardDrive on eBay is good, i've bough several drives from both in the past. But even their prices are pretty high these days.

r/homelabsales and to a lesser extent r/hardwareswap on Reddit are good for buying used drives. I bought some 12TB drives about a month ago for $140/ea.
