Is it allowed to carry in a state park if you have a CHL. I checked the laws and I could not find anywhere that mentioned this, but I know I have seen the big wooden signs in most parks when you drive in that prohibit guns.

The last time I went to a state park was some time ago and did not know to check for a 30.06 sign. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Once initial demand is met, there'll be plenty of them to go around...just like most other new guns that come to the market w/ a lot of anticipation.

I really want an LCP but all the ones I have seen have been at least $100 over retail at gunshows or private sale websites.

I saw the raving reviews on Downrange and really would like to pick one up for shorts front pocket carry in the summer.

I guess I have to hit up a local shop and get on the waiting list.

Just get on the list at Champion. Hell of a price, good people, you have an online source right here on TAs.

They'll hold it for you until you can get down to pick it up.

You're kidding about getting your CHL any day right? You do realize they are in an incredible back-log right now don't you? 2,200 applicants per week and I believe 8 people working in the office.

It will take at least 3 months. Probably a week or two longer.

Any of you LCP fans live in Dallas or trip here occasionally? I know of a shop that's selling them for $290 a pop, and they've got them in stock (multiple new ones).

I think the poster above was saying that his CHL was mailed FROM Austin on May 20 (and NOT that he mailed it TO Austin) ... If that's the case, it probably WILL get to him any day now.

Othwerwise, it seems like 90 days between application and licensing is more like it.

my little sister and i have been planning for about 6 months to go take the chl class together. we were planning on getting it this summer bc she was being transferred with her company to houston, so shed be closer.

now, she's still coming to houston, but only for about 2 months, and then she's being transferred to virginia.

i know virginia has the agreement with texas on the chl...

but my question is...should we not bother now, since she's about to move, or is it no big deal that she gets it here and then moves to virginia so soon after?

i believe that if she plans on calling Virginia home (as in becoming a resident of Virginia), she will loose her CHL status. It is a state issued license. If you change addressed within the state you are required to notify them.

you may be able to transfer the license, but that will fall under the State of Virginia's laws.

ok, that is what i figured, but wasnt real sure. i knew if you moved you had to change addresses with the state, but wasnt sure how it would work going to another state that has an agreement to honor chl's...

Ya'll actually may be wrong. If I were you, I'd look it up or call the CHL office in Austin. I know of someone who has about 4 or 5 different CHL's and he is a TEXAS resident. Give Austin a call.

you can get out of state CHLs. i think the reason they have them is for situations where work sends you out of state to work temporarily. i think you should figure out if she intends to make Virginia her primary residence. I had to live in TN for a time while my wife was in school. but we saw her education bringing us there and did not intend to make that our home. i kept our primary residence, TX DLs, and tax stuff all in Texas.

Considering buying a pistol and getting my CHL. Which should come first? Am I going to take the class and wish I'd had that information before I'd bought my pistol?

I own other firearms, just not a pistol. I've shot plenty of rounds with borrowed pistols so I'm not completely green. I just don't know where to start.

It really depends on where you take the class. I took mine at a joint that provided everything for you (from gun to bullets and then assembled your packet for you), so I didn't need a pistol at that point.

They used Glocks, which I have zero personal experience with, and I still came close to maxing out the shooting portion. (Some of their Glocks were 10+ years old and have had THOUSANDS of rounds through them. As you can guess, range qualification is not difficult at all if you've ever fired more than 10 or so rounds.)

However, if you'll be taking your course at a place that doesn't provide everything, or if you'd just rather use your own, you can do that as well. Since you don't already have a gun that you've become comfortable with, I don't think it will matter either way for you ... (Unless, of course, you settle on a handgun and put several hundreds rounds through it before your CHL class.) It's all personal preference.

I did not know you could take the CHL class without being 21. I guess they just don't give you the card till you're 21?

You can take the CHL class up to 6 months prior to your 21st (unless you're active duty military, then you can take it when you're 18), you just have to wait until you are 21 to get it notarized and send it off.

Anyone have any experience with the Bersa Thunder? I am looking at getting one to carry, and not having the opportunity to test fire it is champions before I buy it kinda scares me, as I just don't like some guns.

I mailed my application almost a month ago, and it still says packet mailed to applicant.

Patience, grasshopper ... they're running WAY behind. I submitted my completed packet in May, and I still get the "processing application" notice when I check online. I'll bet it's another month before I see anything.

I was mostly concerned that somehow the application was lost, since they don't even show "processing application" and didn't want to have to resubmit the paperwork.

I know they recieved it since I got the return receipt, but who knows.

So I was in Lubbock a few weeks ago. I was going into the United Spirit Arena and stopped in my tracks. Posted at the door is the ol' "the unlicenced possesion of firearms..." sign. I took pics with my cell phone camera, but I was under the impression from the CHL handbook that carrying in the premises of a state college was still illegal. Anyone know what was up with those signs?

I believe the law is that you can carry on any state campus but you can't go in any buildings. According to my CHL class the lone exception to this is Texas Tech. You can't carry at all on Tech's campus.

Hmm...they had the signs up which stated that license holders can enter. It struck me as strange.

Is there a time limit btw when you take the course and when you send in your packet? I took my CHL course last year, but really couldn't spare the money at the time. Do I have to take the course all over again?
