Gierach’s books are great, but if you love Gierach the author, don’t ever meet Gierach the person.

87Flyfisher - I've heard the same thing from a number of people, but never any mention of why they felt this way. Have you had a personal experience you'd be willing to share?

I have been around John on several occasions and it suffices to say that it is always obvious that the biggest fan of John Gierach books is John Gierach.

About ten years ago he, A.K. Best and I were the featured speakers at a fly fishing clinic in Arkansas. A.K. is a great guy. John is one of those old hippie types that Colorado is full of. The kind that think they are very enlightened and tolerant of everyone and at the same time believe everyone who is a Texan, Southerner and/or Republican is a fascist, rascist hick.

He would nicely talk to a fan and sign his books and then as soon as the guy would walk away he would mock whatever the guy said in a Gomer Pyle accent.

I enjoy Jimmy Houston's "Catch of the Day". It's a great daily read. Would recommend it to anyone.

I thought most of Colorado was like that.

Supposedly, Texas originally went all the way west to the Rio Grande. And then all the way to the source.

I think we should reclaim all that back again. It would drive everyone in Colordo crazy to lose some of Colorado to Texas.

If you happen to be in Glacier's backcountry, here's a nice little read. And one of my favorite books.

Something every hunter should read at one time or another. I'm not saying it is exciting reading, but should be thought provoking.

"Our nation’s continued prosperity hinges on our ability to solve environmental problems and sustain the natural resources on which we all depend.” John McCain November 22, 1996
"I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use our natural resources, but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob by wasteful use, the generations that come after us."
- Theodore Roosevelt, speech, Washington, D.C., 1900
