If any of yall come across a good online deal for a bow, like the ones that come up here on this board from time to time, please post it.

I may finally have my in for a hunt if I get a bow.

If youve never shot or owned a bow before, I wouldnt buy one now and expect to go big game hunting this fall. It takes time to get good enough and calm enough to make an accurate shot and humane shot. We typically go from targets to small game (coons, possum, armadillo, etc) and then up (always going back to targets for fundamentals).

I'll probably start with pigs. My friend hunts pigs with bow.

All things considered, I would rather start with a rifle! But given that my in for hunting is bow-only, and my other possible in is now a bow guy too, this seems to be the best bet for me. Plus I have always been interested in getting into archery.

Check this site out. I bought a Diamond Marquis off this site several years back and got a really good deal on it. As others have said, I would definitely go shoot a couple bows prior to purchasing though.

With today's technology, you should have no problem buying a bow today and being able to make good shots at 20 yards by October.

I think the idea of me joining the fraternity of bow hunters makes Sean98 want to blow chunks.

MasterSgt, if you could let me know the specs, I would appreciate it. See if it's a good fit. I'm a noob, so I would need to do some research/ consultation to see if it would work.

shifty, here are the specs;
draw weight 55#-70#, 65% let off. Right now it is set for 70#.
draw lengths 28.5"-31.5"
OAL approx 42"
It has adj 3 pin crosshair type sight (don't remember the mfgr), over draw arrow rest, stabilizer, and release. I'll throw in my tool box with some broadheads, knocks and some other stuff. I don't have a quiver but I do have a hard plastic arrow case as well as a soft vinyl case for the bow. It was tuned by a professional bowman and I only shot it about 25-30 times but was hitting 5" paper plates @40 yds. If you want more info call me

Master, could you email me your asking price? It's my user name at gmail.com

I'm going to do some more investigating.

Also, if anyone wants to pipe in--I measured my estimated draw length, and the number I have is 27.7. I was reading that you should round down and not up. Would 28.5 be a bad idea?

35, is 70# too much for a beginner to start with?

I lift weights from time to time, I'm not without strength, but they say that if your pull is too heavy you won't enjoy it.

With today's speed, I have no idea why you would need to pull 70# unless maybe your hunting Elk or Elephants.

to save money? the bow linked above by 35 is only available in 70# RH.

While I don't own that bow, I'm fairly certain you should be able to adjust the draw weight. That bow will probably be adjustable from about 60-70 pounds, maybe even down to 55 pounds.

I was hesitant to bring up the 70# issue, because I was afraid Sean might silently mock me.
