That video is the exact thing we're talking about. It's a post from X, not a journalist, and could've been girls singing on a bus from years ago.

I'm not saying it's not accurate or true, I'm saying you shouldn't be so quick to believe everything you see, even if it aligns with everything you were hoping to see or makes you feel better.
Did you watch the video? You really think it came from a different year? Hey, in the days of AI , I guess anything is possible but this sure seems legit.

According to earlier reports, bubble is the light green roof with the white outside the door. The water swirled from the creek and the river, that was reported by the owners son.

If that's accurate chatter box would be across the driveway and in the tree line at the bottom of the aerial photo

I just watched a video on TV of the rescue of a girl in the tree about 30 min ago. How did it not happen? I am thoroughly confused about that one.

it from a woman on tiktoc who posted about 15 videos of her evacuation from the camp. They weren't AI. It showed them leaving being supported by wardens and then their drive all the way out and to the busses

That's likely the old one from the 4th

I think that footage is over 24 hours old.

But the news presents it like it's "breaking", so I can understand the confusion.

I just watched Louis Amestoy of The Kerr County Lead on News Nation. He said the story of two girls being found alive in the tree turned out to be 100% false and they've retracted the story.

I don't understand who is heartless enough to make a story like this up out of thin air. There are clearly so many families hoping for a miracle
I doubt it was made up. All the info out there is a game of telephone. Two people tell him it's true, it's "confirmed." Everyone wants to be the first to spread the news. The guy on FB Live mentioned it. He heard it from someone, or misunderstood it from someone depending on where in the telephone chain he was.

Everyone is so eager to give and receive information. Unfortunately, in this case, it's not all correct.

But when you are a journalist, it's your responsibility to confirm before print. Many of us believed and shared that information because it came from a news source and not just Joe on Facebook.

The buildings weren't washed away. They are all still there except for maybe Bug House.

The children were washed away trying to get out of the buildings... most of them when a wall of water came down suddenly as Bubble Inn was being evacuated and some as they tried to escape from twins 1 and 2 which have flat ceilings and attics and kids couldn't float inside.

Wiggle Inn for sure (My daughter rode out the flood there), and ive been told Giggle Box and Tumble Inn have vaulted ceilings and the kids had more room with the rising waters to stay in the cabins.

I'm happy the video is genuine and shows the resiliency of those girls during an unimaginable time.

We should all try to post the direct source where possible and not someone reposting someone else's content.

I was in Houston at that time as well. Evacuated from downtown that afternoon and thankfully made it to our apartment before the rains got really bad. We had about .5" water enter our apartment near Richmond and Hillcroft that evening. It was mostly from the pool 15 feet from the front door but we were slightly downhill of it and there you go. Luckily it was mostly "clean" water from the pool overtopping and not true flood water. It was a continuous process for the next 18 or so hours sopping up water with towels and running the dryer. The next day we rode our road bikes around and saw the flooding of 59.

Samaritan's Purse is organizing a disaster relief effort for the Kerrville area.

Samaritan's Purse Responding to Deadly Floods in Texas

They will likely post a way to volunteer to help soon at:
https://spvolunteer.org/

I've helped as a Day Volunteer before and they do good work and send a ministry team as well to visit with the families they are assisting..

You know a heckuva lot more than me, but can you explain that post-storm photo? It appears everything to the river-side of the dining hall is gone. And the dining hall looks very damaged on the river side. But I have also seen the inside of multiple cabins post-storm.

There was never anything there, the dinning hall's back wall was pulled off but the rest of the cabins are far away in that direction.

They were the absolute best "bigger" organization to those in Appalachia after Helene.
Red Cross failed. Government at every level didn't even show up. Samaritan's Purse was amazing.

You're welcome. When they were posted earlier I saved them and have spent a lot of time just staring at them and stying them to visualize what might have happened. As a nearly 40 yr old man who likes to think I am a problem solver, I just can even imagine how I'd react or perform in the situation. To know how much 18-20yr old counselors did amazes me.

Here is my attempt to take the cutesy drawn camp map and put it onto the actual arial map of the camp. I may be slightly off with the cabins in the treeline but I am pretty sure this is fairly close to correct.

I'm 66 and it gave me a visual of where all the cabins were situated. It's almost like they had no where to go.

They do excellent work. We had them here in Rockport after Harvey and we contributed to them when they were in North Carolina for their disaster. They walk the walk!!!!
Do not give to Red Cross, they did NOTHING to help after Harvey, in fact, they were a hinderance.

Someone posted earlier, but it sounds like the highest-elevation cabins with the younger campers were assumed to be safe based on historical data. They evac'd the lower elevation campers to the Rec room and that was even seen as a viable option. Until it wasnt.

The river got higher than anyone expected it to go, unfortunately, and once they realized it, in the darkness of night, there was little to be done to mitigate it.

Not sure if already posted but here is the after pic from La Junta. The building with the pile up is the dining hall. The lower buildings below the second road are all the cabins for younger kids. The ones above the second road are higher on the hill and where older kids stay. I spent a summer in nearly each and every one of them.

The building on the second road is what we saw floating. I believe it is the cabin the female counselors stay. They have a female counselor for every young cabin. The young kids also have 2 male counselor that stay with them.

What we know is just from first hand accounts at the moment.

We know that some cabins (like Wiggle Inn) were able to survive the flood on bunks/mattresses inside their cabins.

We know that some cabins scrambled on foot to higher elevation and were rescued there (like apparently Chatterbox)

We know that some cabins were evacuated together to the second floor of the Rec hall.

For Twins and Bubble Inn, the best guess is that they were on foot in the moment the flash flood surged.
