I just got off of the phone with a client who had two little girls at Mystic. By the Grace of God, both are safe. His younger daughter was in one of the cabins next to Bubble (forget the name but it started with a C). He said some of the counselors were going cabin to cabin banging on the doors to get everyone to wake up. Everybody had been instructed though to stay put in the case of an emergency. However, the 17 year old counselor in the C cabin saw that they were about to drown and used her car keys to break the window and get all 15 girls out in the dead of night. They all had to swim about 100 yards to get to a non-flooded area, but then eventually had to hike even further up again barefoot in cactus and brush, pitch black to higher ground. She said that while they were climbing, they could see other campers in Bubble floating out on mattresses. They waited there until 11 am until they were finally rescued. The C cabin and the Bubble cabin were next to each other and the same elevation, but the only difference was that the C cabin counselor made the decision to break the window and lead them out before it was too late. So many heroes and so much bravery. She said that most of the girls were unaware of the danger and saying things like "I have to grab my retainer" but the counselor just forced everyone out before it flooded.

Must have been chatter box which is against the hill. The girls would have been able to exit and immediately go up hill. As I understand giggle and twins had waters swirling all around them

CNN reporter Pamela Brown just reported that she had to evacuate from Camp Mystic due to flood warning.
She was a camper at Camp Mystic as a 10-year-old, and she called it "a magical place".

What about all the people who said they heard from boots on the ground? Sometimes it's better to not be in the know and not repeat what you were told. This sucks.

So sorry for the confusion. The girls I posted about (Mary and Chloe, the counselor) were identified as recovered victims, likely not found today but confirmed today by families.

Yeah. "Recovered" and "rescued" are two similar sounding words with tragically different meanings. A little confusion in the heat of the moment is understandable.

No one needs to apologize. We are all doing our best to keep each other informed and comforted to the best of our abilities.

I just watched Louis Amestoy of The Kerr County Lead on News Nation. He said the story of two girls being found alive in the tree turned out to be 100% false and they've retracted the story.

I don't understand who is heartless enough to make a story like this up out of thin air. There are clearly so many families hoping for a miracle
I doubt it was made up. All the info out there is a game of telephone. Two people tell him it's true, it's "confirmed." Everyone wants to be the first to spread the news. The guy on FB Live mentioned it. He heard it from someone, or misunderstood it from someone depending on where in the telephone chain he was.

Everyone is so eager to give and receive information. Unfortunately, in this case, it's not all correct.

[That is why we were going to clean up some of the hearsay posts. -Staff]

I think it was fed in part by the 'we found two girls in a tree and they told us where to look', with another source saying they had found four bodies, then shortly thereafter they found six.

I suspect them finding two and then looking around and finding another four, kind of a now we know where roughly to look let's look around here type thing.

Everybody is just hoping against hope for any good news. I know I am.

With ya there. Continued prayers.

HEB disaster response is crazy. I used to work for a CPG company. I remember during Harvey they had staging ready to go, all deliveries being made to those areas and then telling companies exactly what to bring. It seems like simple planning and it is....but they execute next level.
My daughter has worked in the HEB Corporate office for 12 years. She told me their disaster response is so effective that the State of Texas relies heavily on them. I did some consulting for HEB about ten years ago and was incredibly impressed with their people and their processes.

Kind of expected it to be fake. It's 2025. Pics or it didn't happen. Every minute without a picture deepened the doubt. Hate to be right.

Going into this evening lets pray for the children and camp counselor who were part of the missing figure reported this morning. I gathered this information and all these families have reported their child STILL missing as of late Saturday/Sunday.

These children were all in the Twins cabins together from what I could confirm. I will say: it feels like *something* that none of the Twins campers have been found. I am not sure what it means. God willing somehow it means they are alive. Lets pray for the families of the children as they may be going into another night of not knowing where their children are.

Mary Grace -- dermdoc's great niece.

Cile
Margaret
& Greta, who per FB comment report is the sole missing camper from Jumble House cabin

And then there is Katherine, who is the other Bubble Inn counselor and per FB comments today, was planning on going to college to become a special education teacher this fall.

I have also found a pair of twins whose family did not made any media contact but who may have been in the Twins cabins as well and I am not sure if they are accounted for. However, this would make the count of 10 girls and 1 counselor accurate. If this is the case, prayers to this family who is looking for two of their children.

There are also two Bubble Inn campers who have not been confirmed either way recovered or missing. Prayers to these families as well.

Their HEB Foundation offices are in Kerrville. That part of town is fine.

HEB Foundation Camp and Laity Lodge are in the Hill Country, too, but on the Frio. They have indicated on their website are fine out there. I'm grateful for that.

Hold up, but seriously. How old were the girls in Chatterbox? 100 yards is 4x length of most of your aquatic center pools (unless they are olympic sized, then 2x) plus in the dark, plus in moving water.

I assume the 17 year old was herding back and forth to keep everyone grouped together.

That is incredible. besides the hike after.

edit: not doubting the story, I'm reiterating just how amazing that is in a time of crisis.

For what it's worth, he really is one of the good guys in journalism. He's always much more careful than it seems when reporting, so this is a major snafu for him. I'm sure he feels absolutely awful. I was just hoping against it all that it was true.

Different video - there was one this afternoon that was from a realtor in Austin or S. A. who was out working. You could see the responders leaning into the overturned tree.

The realtor's video was showing crews working in areas recovering the deceased (or where dogs had sniffed and alerted) unfortunately. He clearly states that's why he can't go over there. He then said he got reports of the 2 rescues.

Likely just kept hearing the same thing from person after person and decided to go public with it. Means he was wrong, not that he's a bad person. Covering this is the challenge of a lifetime for a reporter who has been in the community for so long.

Everyone is just looking for a bit of good news right now.

I think this is the video people are referencing and he never states he saw the girls rescued. Only that he heard they were rescued 6 miles down river (from context I think he meant 6 miles from where he is while making the video not 6 miles from where they fell in.)

Posted on another thread, but look at the bravery of these girls.

Singing "Pass It On" to keep them calm, which moves into Amazing Grace once they realize the magnitude of what they had survived.

Quote:

It only takes a spark

To get a fire going

And soon all those around

Can warm up in the glowing

That's how it is with God's love

Once you've experienced it

You'll spread His love

To everyone

You'll want to pass it on

What a wondrous time is spring

When all the trees are budding

The birds begin to sing

The flowers start their blooming

That's how it is with God's love

Once you've experienced it

You'll want to sing

It's fresh like spring

You'll want to pass it on

I wish for you my friend

This happiness that I've found

You can depend on Him

It matters not where you're bound

I'll shout it from the mountain top

I want the world to know

The Lord of Love

Has come to me

I want to pass it on

I'll shout it from the mountain top

I want the world to know

The Lord of Love

Has come to me

I want to pass it on

That video is the exact thing we're talking about. It's a post from X, not a journalist, and could've been girls singing on a bus from years ago.

I'm not saying it's not accurate or true, I'm saying you shouldn't be so quick to believe everything you see, even if it aligns with everything you were hoping to see or makes you feel better.

I'm getting lost in this thread but remember someone posting the account of the "swirling waters". You remember who that was?

Also, I'm even more lost on any semblance of understanding the layout of the two camps and where the cabins were in relation to the river. I've heard that these cabins were 150 yards away from water and it seems unfathomable how quickly the water rose to wipe away a building structure. Astonishingly sad.

Not trying to be morbid, but really trying to understand the physics of this whole mess and how it transpired.

No idea, just referencing the names on the map provided previously. Can't see where a 100yd swim would come in play but not my story to refute. The aerial photo was also a bit different in real life than this map.
