Were you working La Junta? If so, I believe we might have been coordinating together…I was in the CanAm coordinating with volunteers.

The "vaqueros" are associated with this I believe. Knowing the little that I know about that somewhat private organization, The ticket revenue Will be completely eclipsed by other donations and fundraisers surrounding this event. These folks have Dave Chappelle money.

Just to clarify, the Tejas Vaqueros and Vaqueros Del Mar are two different organizations.

Hi everyone. I've been following this thread since the beginning and continue to send prayers to everyone affected. I hope this an appreciate place to ask this.

My family and I have only been going to Hunt for a few years but we were introduced to it by our friends who have been going to La Junta and the area for years. My kids absolutely loved always sliding down the Ingram Dam. We were scheduled to rent a house on River Road just down from the Hunt Store starting on July 4. We had tried to rent the house for July 3, but it was rented.

I know this is a weird thing to ask, but I was wondering if anyone had any information on the homes in that area. I have no idea who the people were in the house before us but I've been concerned about them. The company we rented from told us it flooded but nothing more. I keep thinking about what would have happened if our whole party had been there. 8 adults and 10 kids between 5-11. This has all been keeping me up at night. This has been such a horrible tragedy. I can even begin to imagine how the people directly affected are feeling.

Taking the kids and grandkids to Pappadeaux to celebrate Mary Grace's life and her being with the Lord.

And what we have learned from this is we are going to be much more intentional about getting together with the whole family. It is fun.

This is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Derm, first of all my condolences to you and your entire family. I kept checking this thread for a favorable outcome for Mary Grace and was crying when I read your update.

I admit I strayed away from the church I grew up in but I am in awe of your faith and how you are celebrating her life. I wouldn't handle it nearly as well as you are and your faith is a testament to your character.

May God wrap Mary Grace in his arms and let her sing with the other angels.

Do you have an address for the house? We know a number of property owners along that stretch.

This. The Vaqueros are a good group with lots of financial backing. The guys I know involved in that organization are all great guys with big hearts.

… And a lot (not me) with sizable resources.

The Tejas Vaquero name isn't on this deal, but they're definitely involved. 300 Justice Road also, and Texas Equisearch. Probably some others.

It's sacramental.
And ditched the healthy and had the shrimp and oyster fondue, fried oysters and shrimp, and red wine. The table next to us were old time Beaumont folks who were there for it all. One worked the funeral. Everybody toasted MG.

I wouldn't say its meaningless, you inspired me to write something here, from a similar angle to you. I'm usually a man of few words, but this will likely be long, hopefully concise.

I'm from Michigan, with no ties to anyone here. I've been to Texas once in my life about 15 years ago. I nearly posted this morning, and am now glad I waited until after church.

Seeing all of you come together supporting one another in the celebration as with Ace, wbr, and the sorrow with Derm and others who's names I cant recall right now, has been nothing short of a godsend for me. This community has really supported one another through all of this and it's been nothing short of inspiring. It's also shown how little the degrees of separation are there, which I believe furthers this community.

I didn't know the extent of what happened there until Sunday night and couldn't sleep. Then Monday morning, I saw a picture of one of those sweet girls posing like my 6 y/o daughter with hair similar to hers and I was effectively ruined after that. I shed more tears and prayed more than I have in years, and couldn't understand why. This has nothing to do with me, I live on the other side of the country. I can say I've only felt this way once in my life, a sorrow and heaviness of the heart that comes with loss. I spent the next few days scouring the internet for and praying for the "why", I blame my engineering mind. Answering questions and explaining to my little one that kids can be lost and her being angry at God is okay, even if we dont understand what happened and why. As a few others have said, I couldn't remove myself from being there, in that moment, it wouldn't leave my mind. A written piece I came across described what those who aren't affected directly, but "feel" it as a rupture within the human soul, I subscribe to this now.

Then, I came across this forum on Thursday night. Seeing all these stories, the support, the connecting, the lifting others up, the ACTUAL accounts of what happened, helped ease my mind and soul. I have read through all 96 pages of comments here, taking each of you to heart.

Which brings me to today, we skipped church last week, and this week the message had moments in it, that can only be described as relating to this situation and speaking to me. A song, a physical illustration, and a personal story.

I personally believe we may not see the direct why, but it is there. Whether it is giving more, being present, starting a new venture, loving others more. These are all things that apply to all of us as humans. I haven't found what my exact "why" is yet, but I truly believe this is a defining moment for me, and based on the message at church, many others. This isn't a reassurance to those going through pain I truly can't imagine right now, but perhaps at some point a positive that can be reflected upon. I believe this tragedy, will result in people changing their lives, families, and communities for the better.

At my grandmother's funeral 29 years ago when I was 10 the pastor said, our lives here on Earth are like a plant, except the entire cycle isn't on Earth, once we leave this life, our seed is just beginning to sprout.

I reflect on all this to say, people all over the country and world are standing with you all in thought, prayer, and action. I will never forget this moment and know one day I will tell my daughter that it made me a better man and father to her, hopefully watering and fertilizing not only her seed, but those around me as well.

I have love for all of you, and you will all be in my prayers for years to come.

Hi, no takers yet, but happy to turn it over to you if you'd like, along with the forms that feed it. Can also stay on as an admin and help with any form updates or data analysis. Let me know how I can help or if there are folks you'd like me to connect with. Happy to run with it, but totally defer to the community.

Gentle reminder that I'm not local, but I grew up down south / went to law school with some fine Texans who were affected. Here to support however I can.

You work for them or just a volunteer? I mostly just worked a chain saw and cleaned a few cabins. Shame today got rained out. I was there this morning. It was coming down hard.

I attended La Junta 13 years. Great to see some old faces I haven't seen in 20 years.

Saw this on Premium and it brought tears to my eyes.

We grieve with hope ...

This video has nothing to do directly with those lost in the floods but everything to do with the reunions to come. Feel free to delete if it's not appropriate to the topic. It seems worth sharing for those in need of hope. It's an amazing conversation although you can only hear one side of it.

So for those that have been around, or have actually participated in, SAR operations before: what's the window of time that the dogs will be able to smell/find people? Is there a window of a few days? Few weeks? Months?

And I know dog's noses are amazing, but what are their limits here? Seeing that pic of the F250 buried made me wonder how far beneath the water/mud could something be and the dog still hit on it? I know there are variables at play…just trying to wrap my head around the timeline going forward and how many more days we could actually expect to hear that someone might be found.

Long time is my understanding. It was weeks before the last Wimberley victim was located. That's my only personal experience. If I'm not mistaken, they can detect years later. But, I will reach out to some K9 handlers I know for a definitive answer.

And I have an answer from a very qualified expert...

Hr dogs can detect skeletal remains. They just have to be closer to that than if we have decomposing tissue.

There are even specialized dogs that are trained to locate archeological burials that are thousands of years old.

Dogs are pretty freaking cool....

Also, I love to mention the TAMU VET (VETERINARY EMERGENCY TEAM). My information is a decade or so old. But, at that point in time the data suggested they kept the canines in the field 30% longer because of the on-site care they provide. That's huge.
