You might check Capt. Gary Gray with Bayrat. He is one helluva individual and knows the Seadrift/ESB area like the back of his hand. He took me, my son, my dad, and my 92 year old WW2 vet Grampa out one Saturday and we smoked em. I routinely see him launching out of Charlies and he is a great fella with an infectious smile.

I would also recommend Capt. Scott Null to anyone after what I have seen and heard him doing near Kerrville. He's a former LEO and also a wonderful guy. I think he lives in Seadrift, but primarily guides out of POC, including most of the summer for Tarpon.

Known and fished with Scott for 15 years. Former HPD homicide detective- guided part-time for years and then when he hit 50 he retired from the force (as he said, he had "stood over the last dead body I could") to guide full-time.

He lives about 3 minutes from Charlie's so he'll fish east to POC or west to Seadrift depending on what he's been seeing/hearing.

Generally speaking, the fishing gets really tough around Seadrift during the summer. It's usually much better around POC this time of the year and that's part of the reason why most of the guides are fishing near there right now. That said, Seadrift can have some excellent fishing in the spring and fall.

Why is that ? It's been horrible fishing in May and June last three years when we've fished it - doesn't compare to
Port Mansfield at least in July and August Mansfield is other area we fish and it's just 100x better - I thought seadrift was supposed to have great flounder gigging, Bowfishing , duck hunting , crabbing and trout/red fishing

There's nobody there and no pressure so you'd think it would be great fishing in the summer. We like to use bait and catch fish because I have three kids we aren't looking for fly guides -

Its been tough with the heat and winds. I guided a group down there couple weeks ago and most everyone struggled to find trout in the slot. Lots of smalls.... and no idea where the reds went.

As Next Year said summer is usually tough in that area.

We just got back from Bay Flats. I was fully prepared to catch little to nothing based on the reports of guys coming back in on the day we arrived. We were fortunate and did catch our trout both days and managed a few oversized reds as well. I also landed my personal best trout at 26.5". I know that's not huge, but it put a smile on my face.

Look up a guide by the name of Mark Robinson. He used to fish for Bay Flats back in the day and he was always getting us on the fish. He went out on his own a long time ago, but that's the first person I would look up if I wasn't using Bay Flats.

Null runs 2 different boats. He's got a poling skiff but he's also got a big, 24' for more people, bait, etc.

He's running an Xplor 24 Andros but used to have a 23' Dargel Kat which is what we're on with my boys here a few years ago.

We are gonna book someone for next Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning - going Bowfishing with extreme Bowfishing Monday night in seadrift -
I was given this guys info below - his name is Kenny and he owns seadrift charters - any info would be great and I haven't booked with him yet my boys are gonna want to fish with bait though - no fly fishing or lures -

Kenny - Runs three boats
Has female captain option
Mentioned saturday and sunday beaches as being really cool day excrusions.

If y'all think one of the captains above would be a better option and we'd catch more fish please let me know. I'm trying to get it booked tonight or tomorrow -

IMHO it has been dead near Seadrift for the summers since the freeze. It killed almost all the seagrass on the South shoreline from Army hole to Mesquite Bay practically. Those miles and miles of grass used to hold a multitude of bait and game fish in the summers. We used to be able to fish that whole south shore line of ESB and SAB like you would Quarantine etc down near Rockport. I also think the reefs got waylaid by the whole MS oyster fleet for a few years and half the Texas fleet. It was hell. That and the amount of fresh water that is pouring out of the guad the last month or so, had us not finding many fish in those Seadrift area waters last weekend. We spent 1 day there running all the backlakes and outside guts and channels we usually do. Ended up going back to fish POC area Sunday. Dodged storms, and had mostly small fish. All those backlakes, Pringle, Contee, Long, are areas I've fished for 48 years and have never seen them this poor in terms of fish. It makes me sad, but I still try them every other trip or so for a morning or afternoon simply because those are some of my favorite places on this planet, to be, fish or not. So many good memories there with my Dad and Grampa.
