Looking to upgrade from a cheap tripod feeder with a wildgame innovations spinner.

I'd like a critter proof feeder that shoots a good spread and which I can fill while standing.

I've been looking at greengo feeders but curious if anyone has recommendations.

I have had great luck with ASF 600lb stand and fill. I am running 5 right now and had 15 plus in the past at my old ranches. Only thing we had to do was swap a battery or a timer.

Side note- your pen looks small. I would expand it at least double IMHO.

This is the only feeder that I have ever owned that I thing is actually varmint proof.

it's a square 32 feet on each side.

Just curious. How does that impact deer behavior?

I agree - I upgraded to 600lb All Seasons stand and fill 3 years ago and it is really great.

Deer need room inside a pen. You have a tree and you will be placing a good size feeder in the middle. They will not jump in if it is too crowded.

All Seasons.

Add a panel to 2 sides of your pens and you wont have to totally change your set up. Just move one wall out and lengthen 2 sides. That will essentially increase the usable area by 50%.

In 29 years on the ranch and using many of every brand we settled on Texas Wildlife Supply and Lamco.
They are truly feeders made for 24/7/365 use for many years.
Only two brands we found that won't eventually leak or rust out.
We have had TExas Wildlife Supply feeders that have literally not shut off in over 10 years and work flawlessly.
Lamco also.

ETA. Don't feed deer corn during hot months!
Feed straight protein during those months.

It will impact how comfortable they are in the pen and ultimately how many deer will feed in there at once.

Most of our pens, especially if they have a protein feeder, are 48x48 or larger. That's not always feasible with the terrain (hill country) but we try and make it at least 48 on one side if we can't make it a square 48'.

As I mentioned above, a dominant deer or two will get in and run all the other deer off inside of the pen. The other thing to note, which could be good or bad - depending on your goals, is that the corn will likely broadcast outside of the pen if it is smaller. If it is larger, the corn will likely stay in the pen and deter hogs from hanging around frequently.

I like have hogs around for target practice but when they hang around a feed pen for too long and know there is food in there, they'll usually try to get in. Once they're successful, good luck keeping them out… I've had them jump hog panels to get back in.

And regarding your feeder choice, I have had zero problems with the ASF feeders we have. 600lbs or even 1000lbs are the way to go. I'll never buy one with smaller capacity.

Buc-ee's does have their ASF knockoff for like $400-499 that I would entertain if I knew it was going to be protected from hogs. It is not as well constructed or durable from what I can tell but doesn't mean it won't work.

It's not really a knock off. More of an economy version made with galvanized metal bolted together rather than welded steel. All seasons sells the Buccees feeder on their website. It's just a less robust model.

ASF stand and fill are great unless you have aoudad. They treat them like corn piñatas.

I have this ASF feeder. Replaced the spinner with an Eliminator. Works great.

Also have a one of the ASF EZ Feeders from Buc'ees which have been happy with. After a couple years hogs learned how to ram it to knock corn out. ASF made a special retrofit for me that allows the use of an Elimnator. I'll have it out in the field for the first time this season.

Best feeder made. Many of the King Ranch leases tested 5 or 6 of the top feeders and went with ours. I think to date we have replaced 350 plus or so of their feeders with zero coming back after doing battle with big critters.

All I know is the one we have gets hit hard. We regret we didn't just buy another on of the directional feeders from Texas Hunting products. I also have some All Season hay feeders and I'm disappointed that the legs have rusted badly. We have a Lamco protein feeder that has been outstanding. I've never tried their corn feeders. I guess it's just my opinion that you shouldn't have to modify a feeder to make it work properly.

I tried switching to stand and fills and ended up getting rid of them. Don't like how they block some of your shooting lane. And they are a pain in the butt to work on. Regardless of brand, the parts are mostly the same and are going to go out at some point.

I don't really find the ability to fill from the ground as an advantage. I'm already backing up to the feeder and have to get in the bed to get corn out so just stand on the tailgate to fill.

My favorite feeder, I can't remember the name but it's all welded heavy aluminum and hex shaped with a hinged lid with a quality box with eliminator plate. On four full length legs. Don't have to worry about guest shooting it. And when I have a problem I can fix it without having to lay in the dirt or scoop all the corn out.

Do you have a link to or picture of that Texas Hunter products directional feeders?

I see Tripod feeders and stand and fills on their website but not a directional feeder. Edit: Is it the Hanging Wildlife Feeder you're talking about? It looks like you can configure it 4 ways to shoot corn in preset directions.

I will never have a corn feeder that isn't stand and fill again.

ASF have always been kind of the gold standard, Lamco makes a really good one as well. For a little more budget friendly (not much, but some), TSC has their Treeline brand. That's probably what I'll get when the cheapo one I bought off of some guy around the corner from me finally gives up the ghost.

The only think I do not like about Texas Hunter Feeders is the maintenance. The motor is in the corn hopper. You have to drain the entire thing to work on or replace any motor issues. My dad has 4-5 of them. They are very low maintenance, but when they do break it is a pain in the ass.

We have transitioned to all All Season style feeders.

Better hope one doesn't learn, I'll have to grab a picture of one of mine. They roughed it up pretty good, have also broken two welded steel arms from protein feeders by ramming them from the side.

Kill. Them. All.

The other nice thing is you don't get that wallowed out muddy area under the feeder

We kill everyone we see! And yes, they have knocked over several tripod corn feeders back in the day. They have also learned to ram their heads on protein feeders if they're empty in case there is any protein stuck on the side inside of the feeders. Freaking jerks

This is the feeder Bucees sells I believe. Planned on getting one this year unless I hear otherwise.

I've always wondered about those. Do they really work, longevity, etc. They claim that they are varmint proof because there is no corn near the feeder but I find that hard to believe in the real world.

They work great. I've had two of them for years. They are essentially fish feeders slinging corn.

I don't like those ASF 600 with the varmint guard pictured above - half the corn hits the guard and falls under feeder

For $450 the buccee feeders work well - been using some for several years in mexico

I am running both the Lamco models and ASF 600 pound stand and fill. I love the ASF, but have had squirrels chew the wires inside the box containing the motor, which put the feeder out of commission and had to run a work-around on the exterior of the feeder to get it back online. With that said, it has been fine. I prefer the Lamcos, personally and they have been bomb proof.

If you're near Boerne, check out sendero feeders. I have one of theirs and an ASF 600. The controls are inside the top of the hopper and easier to reach than the ASF. Has handled the pigs well.

Same. The eliminator is the only way to go

Do not under any circumstances buy a Treeline feeder from Tractor Supply. I like the ASF for the money or you can buy once cry once with the MB Ranch King.

I will second Texas Wildlife Supply.

My old man bought several 600lb stand and fills and have been flawless and are heavy duty compared to the rest.

ASF quit including "the timer." They have their own Asf timer now

Crossfire is a ASF knock off that still includes "the timer." I just bought one Friday.

Green Go is in Brownwood. I haven't tried one just because I already have a fleet of ASF or Crossfire. It's dang near across the road from Buck Stop. It's next to J & L. They still build Green Go feeders by hand.
