Hopefully someone finds this at least mildly amusing...

We currently have a baby (shorter and easier to spell) flopping around in our back yard. Sunday I was watering the garden and kept getting dive bombed by the parents. At that time I didnt know said baby was out of the nest. I turned my head and about 3 feet away at eye level was the hideous little monster that is a baby mocking bird. Chuckled and moved away and didnt think 2x about it.

We also have Bo. A very particular orange cat that is horrible at catting. Now Bo loves the back yard and we do let him out for long stretches in the evening and when I leave for work, I let him out and the wife lets him in when she gets up.

Bo is fearless, though not good at catting. Will run to the front door growling when the doorbell rings, will bow up to any dog that comes into the house etc. Hes alright, just not that bright.

But that back yard is his. The birds built the nest knowing he was around. We put some thick bushy plants around the tree to discourage him from molesting the baby.

Yesterday I was out watering and noticed the parents. They were agitated. Bo was kind of following me around like he does checking out what I was doing. For some reason he hadnt been wanting to go out like he does the last few days. He'll come to the door, look up and around for something and decide going outside is one big nope.

I glance around and ugly baby is maybe 15 feet away. Of course Bo, who you now know is not good at catting, didnt see monster baby. I chuckled and realized the best situation would to be to grab the baby and put it in the rose bush. Sure doubt my decision making, but knowing Bo would run away if I tried to pick him up, I figured that would be the best decision to keep the hideous thing safe.

Later in the evening I called Bo in. It took awhile like it sometime does and when he did come he kept looking like a crackhead at a DEA convention... take a couple of steps, duck and look around. You know what he endured if you have any experience with mocking birds. I chuckled.

This afternoon, I tried to let him out 2 times. He'd come to the door, look around and up, say nope and come back in. 3rd time he was halfway out and walked back in. I then walked out and sat on the chair, waited about 20 second and then opened the door. Sure enough he was finally brave enough to come on out.

Now Bo seems to have lost a lot of his swagger. He is taking a few steps, looking everywhere and my old man brain finally puts it all together.

He is just off the porch and about 3/4 onto the patio when I figure it all out. Im at the door ready to go back in and the thought entering my head was to mock a mocking bird. Having never tried to do this before, I quickly came up with and executed the best I could an angry mocking bird call. Admittedly not great but I guess effective.

Bo did a cat front flip ending on his back with his claws in the air. I just punked is orange azz out. Any cat street cred he had... gone. Any cat dignity... gone. I bet he could still here me laughing as I walked in the door leaving him outside to face.

Bo... coolest cat I ever had but maybe the least amount of cat talent of any cat ive ever been around.

Sorry if TLDR. Made me laugh and thought id try a little humor to brighten maybe someone's day.

That was such a funny story

They built in my tomotoe plant cage and would hit me in the back of the head or felt like a crop duster buzzing my head when I would get close

We had a woodpecker nest fall out of a dead pecan tree so I put the little guy in a plastic sand bucket and hung him up. The parents fed him for another 2 weeks or so then he left the nest. They still come around now and again to hammer on our electric pole.

We have a few in our backyard. They dive-bomb my American Bully from time to time. It's hilarious to see this tough looking dog cower over a little bird.

Outstanding OP! Ever consider writing books? You're a budding John Graves.

That's funny OP, Bo must have been fed up with getting dive bombed. I remember as kids having mocking birds dive bomb us, at the time I wasn't sure why they were doing it. Haven't seen that happen in years to be honest.

Pets sure can be funny can't they. I remember years back, my wife came home with a rescue Pomeranian. I'm not a pissing contest, white Oakley, tuned Dodge diesel hardasz kinda guy, and I love dogs, so it didn't really bother me, but I'd get so embarrassed when she would get him groomed like a typical ball of fluff Pomeranian. But my God, if that little effer saw another dog or deer or anything else, no matter the size, he was ready to lay it all on the line and fight to the death if he had to.

At the same time, we also had a huge male Great Dane whose bark would wake up the neighbors down the street. Loved that damn dog but he was the biggest p-word you can imagine. Scared of his own damn shadow. Guess you really never know what you're gonna get.

Anyway, no idea where I was going with this but great story OP.

Thanks for the laugh. Great story. I've been sicker than a dog lately. No fever so sucking it up and going to work. I needed this laugh.
