26" vent rib. Has now happened 3 times. Went ahead an bought a new barrel, but was wondering if I should cut the old one down and rethread it. A new barrel is around $600. Anyone have any experience with this? Cost? Or should I just trash the old one?

When you threaded the choke in the original barrel was there a lot of slop/play or did it thread in tight?

How old is the original barrel?

Estimated round count ran through first barrel before choke started flying out?

So the threads just strip out and the choke goes flying ? You could rethread it shorter but not sure it's worth the price. My "friend" took his old that was damaged, replaced with new and then just cut the barrel off at the end of the forearm. Make sit nice a tidy for storing behind the seat. lol.

But I don't know anything about that.

The barrel is probably 12 years old with a wild guess of 2000 rounds, maybe a few more. It always seemed tight, but that was just hand tightening. After the second time I had it rethreaded, but it happened again. The gunsmith said it just didnt have enough metal left to hold the threads.

I'd call Briley in Houston and talk to them. I've never seen this happen but Briley can cut the barrel and thread for new chokes. Good folks.

Benelli barrels are really thin. If you look closely you'll see that the outside diameter is larger where the choke is and smaller down the rest of the barrel. I just measured one of mine and area around the choke is .06" bigger across. This will make a cut and thread harder. But do call briley and see what they say.

If it were me, I'd find my favorite choke and red locktite, rocksett, or solder it in and just run with it.
