Philip "Flip" Pallot passed away yesterday. His "The Walker's Caye Chronicles" helped advance and popularize salt water fly fishing.

Losing AK Best and Flip in one week means there aren't many of the ones who moved fly fishing from the Victorian Era into the Space Age left.

Sad day for the outdoors, fly fishing, and conservationists. I never had the chance to meet him in person, but I was always amazed at his willingness to interact on social media. Any DM I would send to him, always went responded to with advice or tips. A true legend.

Dang. Really sucks for the outdoor community. I wanted to do his fly school with mad river outfitters at his home in Florida. Not sure they were even still doing it but missed my shot last year probably.

Watched his casting instruction and techniques over and over.

RIP.

A trailblazer and innovator. Met him once at a Shallow Water Expo 20+ years ago when I was just getting into fly fishing. Consummate teacher.

This one hits hard. Walker's Cay Chronicles literally changed my life. It started a journey into the world of saltwater fly fishing that has stuck for 30 years. Flip was also a consummate traditional bowhunter and hunted South Texas every season for deer and turkey. Very nice, approachable dude. This is like losing Willie Nelson.

Legend.

for us who took the bait (pun intended) on this ridiculous sport Flip was someone we all looked up to.

he ended up being the narrator of a show that i fell in love with called Sportfishing TV. the guy is a master wordsmith as well as a great ambassador for rhe sport and the waterways we all love.

he will be missed

Remember watching Flip on Walkers Cay Chronicles growing up.

Never a serious fly fisherman (yet)... but appreciated what he was doing in the shows.. Fun to watch.

Flip was great. Walkers Cay was awesome. He did usher in much interest kinda like the movie A River Runs Through It.

I love salt fly fishing. A red fish on a fly rod is better than sex.

Don't anybody tell anyone...

He also narrated much of "History of the SEC"

RIP Flip God Speed...

Listened to it on the plane yesterday, without knowing Flip had passed. Legendary outdoorsman who did things the right way.

Flip's voice immediately makes me pause and think about the hope and promise of my next time on the water. He was truly a legend and a game changer. I was glued to the TV when he was on, and his words had me buying my first fly setup and casting video from Lefty. I will be listening to the podcast today. I was just on a skiff in South Florida catching snook. I can see why he loved it there. He was a consumate professional and an advocate for clean water and conservation.

His shows and podcasts influenced my salt water fly fishing journey as well. I still watch walkers cay on YouTube. He was doing some new YouTube content with the guy from the MRO shop in Columbus Ohio and I thought he was particularly well suited for that setting. Brian would come to him as a fly fishing Yoda for his thoughts on various fly casting and rigging topics, as well as just general outdoorsman philosophy. If you haven seen those episodes, worth a watch.

The obit said complications from surgery and it was unexpected. Does anyone have any other details on what he was dealing with medically?

I think more details will be forth coming from his family

After he passed away Tuesday they began to contact outdoor media, friends, etc. asking them to hold the story until the exact time of sunset at his home in Mims, Florida (6:50pm Central) on Wednesday. For media they stipulated they would not let that magazine, etc. have any future info if they tried to scoop other outlets
. I think everyone kept the deal (including my best friend who didn't tell me until 6:53pm).

First guy I ever saw (on tv) a poling skiff and fly fish in saltwater.

I didn't even know that was a thing as a kid.

In the last few years aside from the appearances on The Sea Hunter, mad river, and Mill House he has been narrating Sport Fishing Television. I have a bunch recorded from the outside channel on Fubo. Great series and such a bummer those are probably the last recent Flip opportunities.

I had a sinking feeling when the email from BTT came through with the subject 'Flip Pallot: Casting Off.' I thought, no way, and didn't want to read what I suspected the email was about.

Bought a bottle of Frigate Reserve to have in his honor this weekend.

Walkers Cay Chronicles (and A River Runs Thru It) fueled a burning desire for me as a yoot to wanna pick up fly fishing. I also remember that when we first got the internet back when that was a new thing, that was the first thing I ever typed in the search bar. Flips voice and the intro to his show was always such a comforting thing. Helping fuel that desire was my granddad telling me stories from his childhood about an old man taking him fly fishing numerous times.

That desire only culminated pretty much into my dad, granddad, and I fly fishing a great little stock tank on our deer lease we had up until I was in high school, catching many a bass and perch. Also included some white bass trips during the spawn on the Leon River a handful of times without much fly success. I haven't touched a fly rod since high school. I'm now 41. Reading this thread makes me want to pick one up again.

I'll also add that Walkers Cay Chronicles is the best name of any outdoors show, ever, IMO.

I didn't really start fly fishing consistently until I was 43. You should jump back in, you've got plenty of time! And it's easier to get back into it now than ever. So much teaching content on YouTube.

Here's another great podcast with Flip that has some content I've never seen/ heard before, worth a listen! Just listened as I clean my travel trailer and get ready for hunting the rest of September for Elk and Bear. Hard to believe he won't be here a little longer telling great stories…
