I have about 5 deer hunts available this year south of Caldwell It is a high fenced property and I am looking to remove about 5 bucks, 8 points. They have been on protein feed all year. These are day hunts only.

This is a pretty fair deal. I pay $150 a point at a place by Fredericksburg for cull under 8pt and management 8pt.

Good luck with the hunt.

I would leave all of those alone. Much higher value hunts out there for $1400. Those are some very young deer.

My FIL runs a high fenced property and you think of culling much differently than low fenced. At some point, you just have to get numbers down and reduce the feed bill. With high fences, you can easily keep the tip top tier of young bucks and cull anything you deem as undesirable early on. We are pretty much at the stage of less than 10 pointer at 3 years old gets shot no matter what.

I have my own high fence property so I understand that. One of those might be 3 years old. That's all I'm saying. Also that charge would be standard for 3.5 to 4.5 or older cull deer at least in Texas. If you want them killed donate to some kids I would think. To each their own my 2 cents.

Thanks junebug07. Removing inferior deer is a must on my property. I don't have deep pockets either. I have to re coup some feed costs as well. I gave away some youth hunts last year

Those aren't inferior. They aren't legal to take. Several of them are not wide enough, or so close I wouldn't my risk my license shooting them.

To properly manage a property you want to stair step the age class of your deer in your required goal of harvest numbers. Typically you don't want to get to your MLD buck numbers just by harvesting by points. You stand a good chance of eliminating an age class that way.
Example: If you need to harvest 6 bucks you should harvest across your age classes… not just kill all 6 as the 3.5 year old 8 points.
