Has anyone ever hunted elk in Arizona near Winslow/Flagstaff in game management unit 5A? I drew a tag this year and I'm seeing a few animals along the highway mostly at night. I am hoping it will cool down and the bulls will start bugling. I am not seeing anything when I venture up and glass the ridges and valleys on the interior of the unit. They just mainly bed down near roads during the day, forage at night, and are very tough to try and stalk while they are bedded down. Any thoughts? They are not responding to bugles or cows calls. Are you truck camping? Night road bugling should get an answer if you do it right. Lots of bulls in that unit. A friend of a friend just got a nice bull that they located at night and got on it the next morning. They were able to get eyes on him early and stalk in. Same unit.
