My son is getting married this summer down in El Campo, and for the rehearsal dinner, he wants BarBQ.

Who do y'all recommend for catering such a thing?

Thanks.

Off the top of my head, the closest decent BBQ would be Witt Pitt in Rosenberg. Mikeska's is right off 59 but I wouldn't really recommend it unless you're just looking for chopped beef sandwiches and baked potatoes.

If you're coming down from Houston on 59 you'll drive right by Witt Pitt and can pick it up if they don't do delivery for catering. Some of the guys I duck hunt with do this on occasion.

Congratulations on the wedding and not having to pay for it!

I've attended events in El Campo where Reyna's cafe out of nearby Hungerford has catered for BBQ. It's good.

ETA: Witt Pitt would be a great choice if they cater down to El Campo, or you pick it up from them.

Reyna's Cafe in Hungerford would be my recommendation. They are located outside of Wharton which is about 20 minutes away but they cater weddings in EC often. They did a great job with BBQ when my sister-in-law got married 3 years ago and had a great price at the time.

Mustang Creek BBQ is my personal favorite. All around great BBQ and have done good catering for me in the past. Their restaurant is an old Exxon Gas Station off HWY 59 so not fancy at all but really good food.

Pitt Viper BBQ is not bad but they just lost their lease on their restaurant and are currently cooking out of a Food Trailer. Not sure what their future plans are.

Mikeska's is the most established place in El Campo. They are meh at best. Good sides. I only go there when I need to get in and out fast.

I'm sure you will get more opinions but this is my 2cents.

+2 for Mustang Creek BBQ. It is 10 minutes past El Campo just before you get to the Louise exit. At least drive over there and buy a plate lunch sample. Even if y'all don't hire them, you will get an excellent meal. I live in Louise and eat there often.

Mustang Creek is good people. I used to live south of Ganado, can't go wrong with them.

Mustang creek great. Their bbq is going to be the best bbq in town… in an old gas station, before that they were in essentially a lean to that is now a watermelon stand. For whatever reason I feel like a lot of people do mikeskas (sausage/chicken/beef) for weddings. There is another location in town that is much better than the highway location as far as bbq. Fwiw, all of their beef is tri tip vs brisket. I like mikeskas bc it's what I've eaten all my life but it's admittedly not phenomenal bbq. Not terrible though, I've had much worse.

Not sure if pit viper caters, but I much prefer the other 2 over pit viper anyway.

Heinz BBQ in Wharton is very good. Old location burned down so they open new restaurant in Wharton.

Plus 1 for Hinzes. Best available for El Campo. Wit pit would be number 2 based on being further away

We'll have to agree to disagree on this statement.

I didn't know Mustang was still around, I can get on board with them.

I'd be looking for a camp cook to hire and buy the meat.

Edit to add there are chefs that specialize in bbq and travel.

Pete Mims out of Laredo among the best. Reach him at Border Foundry. They cooked for about a month in Port A after hurricane hit. Good people.

Better than that beaver's up the road on 59! I come through there a lot, but at odd hours, usually 8-9 pm. All the decent options are closed and Buc-ee's is the only option. I'm grateful when Prasek's is open. Their sliced beef sandwich is a huge improvement over the beaver. And their vac sealed, brined, split whole BBQ chicken go in the cooler and make the trip home for a couple of easy dinners.

South of El Campo on 71 past Danavang and Midfield is a place called Beneath the Oaks. I went to a wedding there in December. Very nice place but in the middle of nowhere

Ehh, Kenjo's isn't bad. But it isn't blow your skirt up good either. If I"m driving by and am starving it's a good enough place to stop, but definitely not a destination or catering place.

Mikeska's is trash.

I had Evelyn's Soul Food cater a lunch once for a project of mine down there. They did a good job and had way better than average BBQ.

Vincek's in East Bernard may be an option. It's a little far away.

But likely the others mentioned already that are closer would be the way to go.
