It's time to get some bugs dead at my house. Don't want to pay $80-$100 a month for contract pest control. I live in a subdivision in a town outside of Austin. Hit me with your recommendations for DIY insect treatment.

I have used Demon before and its great but washes off easily. Any other ideas for a 1600 sf home and yard that has dogs and kids?

Same. Bifen IT with a sprayer on my Ranger over the whole yard 3 or so times a year and a pump sprayer around the exterior of the house and along baseboards once every 2 months or so. I still get the occasional scorpion in the house, but overall it works great. A gallon lasts me a year.

Yard too? Do anything special for fire ants etc? Which product should I get? Amazon? Tractor Supply?

Oil based Bifen outside and water based Bifen inside.

If you're dealing with fire ants in your yard, run the mound over with your mower then spray it with Bifen. Do that every time you mow and sooner or later they will all disappear.

I live in "a town outside of Austin" too and have always used the cheap Spectracide product from Lowe's/Home Depot. Works well but seems like all the Spring lizards disappear or die as soon as I spray. Will Bifen kill lizards?

I just spray the ortho home defense maybe 2-3x per year. Around inside and outside perimeter of home, along with all points of entry and penetration (windows, pipes, utilities etc) works fine.

Wife signed us up for a mosquito service as they are real bad in our neck of the woods in ETX. They spray monthly, for all bushes, pellets in standing water, low points. Really helps.

I use Demon WP around the outside of the house. I've sprayed it inside before but found that a good dose outside keeps me from having to spray inside.

I've been told treating ant piles at evening/night is most effective. I use orthene and it works.

There is a granulated Bifen that can be spread it your yard as well.

The only thing I spray for is mosquitos and use Sevin that comes with a hose end applicator. I also use it for leaf footed beetles on tomato plants but generally I don't like to spray the yard with insecticides. I have fire ants but I avoid them.

Demand was recommended to me by a friend who owns a pest control company.

I spray the perimeter of the house every three months during the dry season, and every two months during monsoon season. I use Demand CS, alternating with Tempo SC or similar. Also spray an IGR about every four months. This has worked extremely well.
