The ones at Bucees are surprisingly good for the price. I bought one for my FIL a few years ago and it has held up to the elements well. It stays uncovered and the ashes are not regularly scooped out. If you took care of it like you should, it will last a long time.

Can confirm that this man can build whatever you want!
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

I have been needing a steak pit bad. Something heavy that I can get the temp up high on and won't warp and crap out. Good enough I can do burgers too and has easy clean up. I like that look.

I build these out of either 3/16 or 1/4 inch new steel depending on clients request. This cowboy cooker is a great way to cook most things outdoors, hit me up.

Depending on size and material thickness they're in the 575 to 675 range

Do you have more pictures? That looks like a design my son could try to make for a supervised project for the fair next year?

Nothing will compare to getting a pit custom made to your specs. But if you need one now, look at Murdochs and Victoria all sports

I keep expecting to see Augustus McRae make a cameo in one of those pictures with a bottle of whiskey next to the fire.

This is as good of a place as any to ask… is there a specific name for the type of pit that is just a 4x8 box that's about 4' tall with a grate at about 3' up? Build a fire or put coals on one end and you can put the meat directly above or offset to the fire and has a lid on top?

I don't thing there's a real name for it, I built on kinda like you're talking about for an Aggie professor several years back. His was only 3 x4 and 4 deep though. Worked great but heavy to move. If you do a 4x8 you gonna need a fork lift to move it, LOL

Ha! The way I've seen them built is just square tubing for the frame and tin for the sides so not to terribly heavy! Then a grate tacked on 3' up and a door cut in one end with hinges to access a fire.

Found this one interesting in Llano this year at the L&E feed store annual fajita lunch. Really put off some heat and the pipe chimney was tall enough to have the smoke going up above eye level. I'm sure it is heavy but the tubing welded to the pipe is for a forklift or loader to move it. Not sure why they added the sand below it.

Sand was there to probably stop any of the rocks exploding below it or to make it a more level solid base to sit depending if it is open or closed on the bottom.

I guess they were using it for coals to cook fajitas.

Actually it wouldn't be hard to add a holder for a wok. Would just need the diameter of the wok

There was lots of whiskey. Four Roses single barrel. However, no Captain McRae. Both of those pictures were taken on an annual trip to the Buffalo River. So, maybe Burt Reynolds and Ned Beatty?
