Looking for recs on digital wireless rain gauge/weather station. I've had a couple that were crap. The latest one is a Newenter. it shows about 1/3 of what my old fashioned glass tube rain gauges show four feet away. Sometimes, as it's raining, it actually goes in reverse and shows less rain. Sometimes it shows nothing.

Anyone had any good luck with one?

I have an Ambientweather ws-2000. Very happy with it. Recently had to replace outdoor sensor unit (after about 6 years or so) but that will be the price to pay for any system. If all you want is a rain gauge, they probably have something along those lines though I can not vouch for those.

OP does your rain gauge hav the ability to be calibrated? Some of those with a remote have some screws you can adjust to calibrate it.

I'm not going to claim that I've ever successfully done that, but I'm aware that option exists.

This one is not that sophisticated.

+1 for the Ambient Weather. I've had it for 4 years. Only issue I've had during that time is a few days where the rain gauge was clearly off...turns out some leaves had gotten into it. Removed and worked fine since.

I have a Tempest and I like it but I'm not sure the rain gauge is accurate. My understanding is it measures your rain then averages it out with other Tempest in the area. Yesterday, I had 3.25 and my buddy 1000 yards away had 5"in his old fashion gauge. One of us is off.

My Ambient Osprey bit the dust after 5-6 years. Not that accurate but, ok. I have an Ecowitt on the way, I'll post my impressions if anyone is interested. If it sucks, I'll come up with an excuse for a Davis, or Peet's.

I know you want digital but some coming to thread might not so I'll post this…

I Gave up on my ambient , lacrosse, and Davis models years ago. None of them are going to be accurate. They are ok if you want the convenience of not reading it by hand and emptying and they are ok if you want "close enough".

This is the only one I use.

It's also only 1 of three that measurement programs will allow.

There is simply no arguing the amount of rain received where mine is mounted. It's there. In the tube. With the numbers on it. It holds 13" of rain so no worry of overflow and missing a rain event. (Except Harvey, lol) No magic. No bird **** in the tip scale, no errors with electronics that I can't validate.

My Ambient Weather is quite accurate. Although depending on the rainfall rate it might read a tad high or low but more than acceptable. I adjusted my rain gain to generally match my Stratus manual gauge. If your electronic one is/was inaccurate, you might not have adjusted the gain to where it needs to be or maybe it was a siting issue (e.g., under an overhanging tree limb or the like?).

I bought a standard Chinese one from Amazon and it worked fine until a spider decided to make it home. Now I put Tempo Dust in anything I don't want bugs to love. Deer blind is a good example. No wasps in two years since I started dusting the corners and ceiling

You can change the way it reports rain measurements in the settings section of your app. Just change it to read from your unit only, and it won't report area averages.

I've had my Ambient for 4 years and love it. For the first couple of years I checked it alongside my traditional rain gauge and found it was accurate enough for my purposes (and yes, those still get leaves or spider webs or trash in them, making them miss a day too).

I've heard old men speak of it in hushed tones as if speaking too loudly would scare this "rain" away. I'm told it's when droplets of water simply fall from the sky. Sounds pretty fantastical if you ask me.

I've had an Ambient for over a year, and it's been great.

I've owned multiple weather stations over the last 20+ years and have use many different ones with limited to very advanced capabilities. Recently I've started using the rain gauge apps and have found them to be very accurate as they now have the ability to measure hyper locally. Plus you can setup multiple locations and keep track of all of your properties. Currently I'm using Rain Drop I downloaded off the App Store.
