Ok, question. Couple of our peach trees are just loaded. Someone told me to thin them out, take out the smaller ones. That way the others will grow larger. Anyone do this? Is it BS? Sounds reasonable, just checking in with the awesome reservoir of knowledge here. Tia!

Yes, you need to do this. Thin them to about one every three inches or so. Remove any doubles.

Thanks! Quite a few doubles. I knocked off all the ones that were half the size of the bigger ones. Still lots on.

Yes you need to thin it out. On orchards we use pvc wrapped in foam and duct tape, like a bat

I have a pool swim noodle with a one inch dowel in the middle to do the same thing

2 things.

1 Yes removing excess fruit helps the tree concentrate on the remaining fruit; 2 it will certainly help the tree not lose limbs due to weight and breaking once the fruit gets close to ripe and heavy.
