I am thinking about getting a monocular similar to this one.

Pulsar Oryx LRF XG35

I don't really plan on any night huunting but would love to have a thermal or NV to just see hwat is around at night. I have land in the moountains around Cloudcroft NM and think it would be fun.

Don't want to have to hold a rifle to look around.

Would it be better to get a scope and then just use it as a monocular?

Thanks for any info.

I recently bought a mid-tier ATN ($1200 with discount) and enjoying using it for hunt scouting and for goofing around outdoors, etc.

I use my pulsar telos for more than just night hunting.

I have really bad eyes so its hard for me to detect movement while deer hunting. You throw that thermal up and you'll know immediately what's moving around. (yes I know its kinda like cheating but Im hunting in a box blind over corn feeder so who cares LOL)

I also use it when im in the blind an hour before sunrise for morning hunts. Youd be surprised what you're not seeing while taking your nap before shooting light. Its become an invaluable tool for me . Hell ive used it to find water leaks in my wall...

its actually pretty darn useful outside of night hunting. but be careful, you see one gorup of pigs with a scanner and youll wind up buying a scope. Its pretty addicting.

Might look at the new pulsar trail 3's. They are a scope thats ergonomic enough to also be used as a scanner.

I use a thermal mono for all sorts of stuff around the house and in the field. The Oryx is a solid unit. I sold one to a poster here several months ago and have not heard any complaints.

Over the years I've tried a lot of different setups - Thermal mono / NV scope, thermal scope on QD so I could pop it on and off the rifle quickly, etc. They all work but none are as easy or seamless as a thermal mono and thermal scope together.

I've been using and selling this stuff for close to 10 years. Feel free to reach out if I can be of assistance with your purchase. outdoors@kelsoarms.com

Skelso helped me greatly with my NV scope purchase. He listened to how I do things and offered perfect guidance. Couldn't be happier. I would follow his guidance.....

Sheets, now I've got to get a thermal mono from Kelso, I'm obviously the only guy on the OB that hasn't.

In order I got

Thermal monocular
Thermal scope
Night vision goggles

I wish I went reverse order, but my monocular thermal is trash in comparison to the other two.

Tacswap is awesome for used gear. Lots of good dudes on there for trading
