I don't have an AMS, but seldom find the need to print from my filament dryer. Unless I'm doing nylon, TPU or polycarbonate I almost never print from the dryer.
I used to dry before every print but got lazy and only dry my PLA every month or two or if it's causing issues. PETG is a bit more problematic but unless you are doing a bunch of fine details or multiple parts where the nozzle rapids all over the build plate the stringing is minimal.
If you get into engineering/specialty filament I'd definitely recommend a good dryer that can maintain a minimum of 70C.
