EDIT: Damn computers. I got in my truck at 3:45 to pick my boys up from camp and the gauge went all the way to full. The little research I did says they can act up when they've gotten really low. This was the lowest I ever got it. Thanks for replies.

Posted this in Automotive as well but figured more eyes would be on it here.

2022 King Ranch F250 was down to about 60 miles before it shuts me down to 50 mph, so I filled up at Bucees this morning. I have driven another 20 miles and started truck 3 different times and still shows low (says 44 miles until speed is limited).

I've heard it can take a while to update, but I'm getting nervous because I don't want to have my speed limited. Haven't had that happen before. Anyone encountered this before? Any advice? Thanks.

since youve been driving it already with no luck, do a hard reset. disconnect the negative terminals for each battery for about 15 mins. You might have a code since you waited so so long to refill it. Its possible the sending unit now has crystals formed preventing it from functioning correctly. I never let my def go below 1/2 and have never had issues. Treat your fuel system the same way. Dont let it get low. Hopefully your sensor is ok but thats the last thing I think it would be but you never know. Good luck!

I had the same issue with mine but now it always says it's full. I only put about 5k miles a year on my truck so I never really have any idea how much def I have because I never remember to make a note when I fill it up. Last time I filled it it said it was full and I put about 4 gallons in it.

To all the "delete" folks, do you think there's anyone that wants to pay for horse piss/water mixture in order to drive their truck? I'd delete in a heart beat if I didn't have to worry about warranties, selling, servicing in future, etc.

Respectfully, maybe you should have thought of that before you bought a truck that required EXHAUST FLUID

Just saying it sounds like something so stupid you can't even get a an E1 to go ask for.

Wife's Range Rover had similar issues and $7000 later the shop removed and cleaned tank and level sensor and we were good to do.

Delete it. You will thank us later. I'm going on 200K on my deleted F250 and have zero concerns about 'servicing later or selling it.'. Gf has deleted 2020 F450 with 250K.

Warranty I can understand, but selling and servicing - no issues at all. Odds are you'll be able to sell it faster without the DEF and dealers care not about whether its deleted or not.

I am ignorant of DEF. I have never owned a diesel vehicle, and I don't anticipate ever needing one, but "exhaust fluid" sounds an awful lot like "blinker fluid", to me.

The idea is that a it's injected into the exhaust it chemically bonds inside the catalytic converter with certain molecules in the exhaust to create a molecule that is heavier than air and will settle onto the ground rather than a lighter than air molecule that goes up into the atmosphere.

But the fluid isn't cheap, it isn't shelf or sunlight stable, and the entire system can be finicky. Also after over a decade with the stuff we still can't seem to design a single use jug for the stuff that doesn't spill all over everything when you're putting it into the tank.

Edit... typos

I stopped buying the jugs and hit the 18-wheeler pumps as they have def there at the pump and it's a hellova lot cheaper per gallon. Plus can fill the truck with diesel quick with those high vol pumps.

It's also nothing more than cow piss and the "solution" to a problem that never should have existed in the first place but since tree huggers think carbon, which is the basis for all life on earth, is icky and grody and what not, we now have a fuel that is less efficient, requires more to burn to do the same work and have to add cow piss to the exhaust to appease a small group of people that scream and cry at everything.

Hard to find those stations from Marble Falls on 281 to I35 in San Antonio all the way to Laredo. But they sure are convenient when I found them.
My first DEF truck, maybe an '06 F250. Couldn't find DEF and ended up coming off ranch into Encinal with 20-30 miles to empty. I wasn't sure how serious it was to run out,
Found a quart in Cotulla so bought 2. With no funnel or hose I poured into little def spout leaving maybe a third on the ground, my boots, and side of truck.
Those were the days.

Guy did mine is in Marble Falls but I'm sure there are some performance shops in Austin.

Ive asked him for a breakdown. I prob spent $10k but included more advanced stuff, cold air intake, all down pipes, aftermarket turbo, dual 18 wheeler exhaust and chrome tips to look and sound stock. It's very quiet.
I'll pm his prices to you.

Delete. I had a Nissan Titan with the exact same issue. I got it repaired and it works fine now, but it cost thousands. If it goes out again, then what?

I agree with you. Plus the "delete it" crowd isn't solving your immediate problem.

Are you outside your warranty? I'd make that the dealerships problem. If you are it of warranty can you still get ESP from Ford? Highly reccomend that if you are eligible. One repair like this covers the cost of it.

If you are out of warranty and cannot get ESP, then I would delete it and pay the piper or DIY once you get this solved. Kits for this are available from places out of Canada I think and you can do this yourself.

I had this issue a few weeks back on '22 450, def tank was topped off but was giving warnings of x miles till limp mode, plus various other strange electrical warnings. Turned out to be a bad cell in one of the batteries, swapped in a new battery and everything went back to normal. Just another data point for you to check before spending a bunch on repairs.

Most of the time nothing. But if they ask - "yes, it's deleted". They generally say OK and move right along.

I just deleted my Ram and it was about $1650, including the pipe and muffler kit and program. I paid Trident's kid to come of my house and do the hard work for me.

The tune was from Optimal Industries out of Canada and ran about $1k, but you can get them cheaper if you don't get the shift on the fly options. Pipe and muffler were about $250 and labor to Trident's son was $400.

No more DEF or codes associated with it. I also put a Banks intake horn and grid delete on it the first time I got a code for mass air intake. I'm driving this thing for a good long time.
