I tried to search; but nothing came up. The wife and I are wanting to get some sort of solar screen installed on our windows and were wondering if there was anyone local to go with.

Meant for there to be a question mark there at the end.

We are also looking to get some screens put on our sunroom. While driving home the other evening, we saw a truck with a sign turning into Lowe's parking lot that was advertising his business, and we thought that when we decide to do ours we would give him a call for a bid. We used one years ago but they are no longer in business.

If you or anyone else knows anything about this business, let me know.

Enercon in Bryan off of Villa Maria. We priced them and Acme a year ago and Enercon was better and they had more selection. Hope that helps.

I just recently had these priced- and got quotes from 3 businesses- including Garcia, Enercon and also Acme. They were all just about the same price. I am now trying to decide if one is BETTER (quality) than the others.

I've always wondered - do the screens make it significantly darker inside the home?

Fourth for Garcia's Solar Screens! Raymond is awesome. We got ours about a year ago and they work wonders. He has done just about all of Austin's Colony.

Ags wife: They do make the room a bit darker but hey its worth it for the heat reduction and savings on my utility bill

Don't know about the others, but Enercon is wonderful to work with. For the same price, I would use them in a heartbeat.

I have gone ahead and decided to go with Garcia. He's a friendly guy and his prices were in line with the other quotes I recieved. He uses SunTex material in his screens, which is pretty much considered the industry standard. They come with a ten year warranty and will be up by the end of next week . . . thank goodness.

Unfortunately, I don't know what material is used by each of the three. Enercon was the only one which provided me with samples. I know of another house that has used Garcia, don't know of anyone that has used the others. However, I'm leaning towards Enercon because of how professional they were when visiting my house.

I used Enercon at the time. It's funny, we moved to North Carolina in October of last year and over here noone had ever heard of solar screens and we had to explain to the screen place we found how ot make them. The screens are made of a material called Phifer Suntex and it is available in different shades like 80 & 90 I believe. There are also lots of colors to choose from and not just having to get the dreaded all black windows. In Texas we had grey screens that filtered 85 percent and here in Carolina we have white screens that filter 70.
We looked at the window films but the thing that I couldn't get past is that the suns rays had to come through the windows, then get reflected with a window film (film is placed on the inside of your window) whereas the solar screen was filtering the rays before they hit the window.
My utility bill went down around 30 bucks the first month I had them and I was averaging about 110 last summer. This was probably a combination of the insulation and screens, but hey, I was saving money.

I hope this helps you all back in Texas. I do know I don't miss the warm nights in the mid to upper 70s which is where I learned the bulk of your bill goes since you want it to be cooler at night in theory. Here in Carolina it gets down to around 65-70 and it cuts down a ton on my bill.

had our screens installed yesterday from Enercon and they are awesome, and we didnt even have to be at the house at about 80 bucks a window (tax and installation included) it was well worth it.

We just used Garcia. Price was comparable to others - about $80 per window. He installed quicker than his anticipated time and was very professional. Highly recommend!

Do these work best when the window is in direct sunlight, or does it make a difference when it is shaded. I have several windows in my house that never see sunlight, but 70% do.

Best to do them all or just the ones in direct sunlight?

Depends on your needs. There probably isn't a need if the window isn't seeing direct sunlight; unless for some reason you just want to reduce the amount of light in a room. He told me that it wasn't uncommon for clients to just have a few windows covered.

Just a few questions for those that have had the screens installed:

1. how much darker is the room, now that they are installed?
2. have you noticed that it helps keep your house cooler?
3. how much electricity did you save or anticipate saving once screens were installed?

Thanx!

Reviving an old thread.

Looking to get solar screens. Previous posts recommended Enercon and Garcia Solar Screens. Looking also at Bluebonnet Solar Screens and Brazos Valley Solar Screens.

Anyone had experience with any of these (or others) good or bad?

I have used both Enercon and Garcia in the past. And would do so again. I don't know anything about the other two.
