I am guessing here, so take that for what it is worth.
There is a lot of land currently up for sale on University Drive, next to Veterans Park. I would believe that this is where the location will be.
This is where the fields are going according to the information the city released in December. It is land already part of the park.

The petty bickering between cities isn't a part of this. The petty bickering between soccer and baseball, softball and baseball, baseball clubs and all the rest of it- is not a part of this.
This appears to be about special interests getting together, putting their differences aside, and sticking it good and hard to the taxpayers of College Station.

A bunch of things have been posted about how this makes no sense. This is Macy's level of "nobody could possibly think this is going to be beneficial for the community." Mistakes of this size are not made innocently.

Very exciting news for College Station! I swear, some people find negativity in everything. I for one am excited. Have never been to a Bombers game but will likely go once they relocate.

I am pretty sure the only way to think this is good for College Station is to not be familiar with the Bombers. I hope the best for them. But I strongly suspect anyone who gets College Station taxpayers financially involved with these guys do not have the best interests of College Station taxpayers in mind.

One more thing to create gridlock on Hwy 30 / Harvey Rd.

Can we get that road expanded before adding more traffic?

Maybe I'm missing something, but weren't these fields already going to be built? And now they just have a tenant for 30 nights a year, increasing revenue? In other words, these fields being built weren't contingent on the Bombers moving to CS, were they? Or are they going to significantly enhance the fields that were planned if the Bombers agree to the lease?

Honest question, I'm just trying to gather information so I can form an educated opinion.

Nothing is being built for just the Bombers. This is a "baseball for all" approach. All ages. The Bombers will lease the field for a month out of the year, and it will be shared among clubs, little league, public play and everyone.

I hope that makes sense.

Will little league, the public (the people who are paying for this), and everyone be able to use that field during the time it is leased? Or do the Bombers get exclusive access to it during one of the prime baseball playing months?

No not exclusively. I think they play 24 home games. An hour before and after it'll be theirs then opened up to others. It's truly "baseball for all." The other events are special events with live music, etc.

You don't think this is exactly why they started the ballpark boondoggle? It was originally going to be built in Midtown where Bombers guy was president of board of directors. You think that's a coincidence?

The right way to look at this isn't that the Bombers are going to get 30 days of access to a ballfield the city has lying around. The city is spending a not-so-small fortune to build and maintain a facility for the Bombers the city will have access to 11 months out of the year.

One has nothing to do with the other. There was never a championship field designed for multiple sports at TIP.

Your very precise words here make me think you know exactly what I am talking about. Championship field was a part of the plan at least as far back as September 2019. If I recall correctly, it was a part of Phase 2 which citizens voted down. I wouldn't be surprised if that is why it wasn't fully designed.

This has been in the works for a while. Voters sidetracked the plan in 2022 by voting down the bond that was supposed to build it. But our city council is going on ahead and making it happen anyway.

Bond C was the $30.4 million one that had an extra $5 million for a "championship field."

I am not a resident of CS, but I do have a former baseball player and current high school baseball player. This community really does have a need for full size baseball fields. Now the source of money to build them and all of that can be debated, but the need is legitimately there if you have any involvement in the baseball world.

This is from 3 years before I was elected. I had forgotten there were 3 options on the bond referendum but I did know it failed.

As for the championship field, apparently I was wrong about what happened back then. Moving up to my time on council, however, I never saw or reviewed any plans that included a championship field at TIP. Also, the pics in your story do not depict a championship field but simply ball fields. (See image from presentation).

Perhaps we should take it to the voters. We have had extensive feedback and we've had overwhelming support to this point.

Who doesn't think we need baseball fields? Please weigh in.
