*recommendation (thanks, Siri)

So, we were using a friend's son who was an agent in the DFW area. Since he decided to change careers, we find ourself in the market for a new agent.

Our current agency is a smaller independent, and they shop us to different carriers. Currently our house and umbrella policy is with Traveller's, cars are with State Auto.

What say you Aggieland TexAggers?

Unfortunately, like Rob Gronkowski, I don't qualify.

Liere or Rollo. I would stay away from Goosehead.

We just switched from Germania back to USAA for homeowners (they surprisingly beat most quotes for the coverage and still offer 1% deductibles).

We switched from TX Farm Bureau to State Farm for vehicles- and I shop that every 6 months

But call my husband (you should have his number or contact info). He can tell who is a PITA to work with when you have a claim/who has been in a "denying" mood lately

Hopefully the search/quote can be done online. Broker(s), like Rollo, might be a good idea.

Get ready to spend, spend, spend.

I'm spend, spend, spending now. I pay it all in one lump sum to get a discount, but that check hurts to write

I've used Liere in the past and they are fine but we currently got a very competitive rate for home & Auto from Farmer's after Texas Farm Bureau jacked out home rates WAY up. I just had a recent auto claim with Farmer's and the customer service has been excellent.

Our auto rate with TXFB was going to go up around 800 for the 6 month policy. No tickets, no accidents, no claims. It was insane. That said, it was the first time they raised our rate in a years. We jumped ship too

When getting bids, you might consider raising your deductibles on you house and on your vehicles, You can save significant money by doing so. I raised mine a decade ago and since I haven't had a claim in 29 years, it has saved me a lot.

I get that- but then you have hail events like this year or the one 3 years ago, and have massive damage to both your house and vehicles.

You are quite lucky if you haven't had to make a claim on anything through those two storms.

Yes. We had to get a new roof three years ago, that's hurting us. I've been in a wreck the year (not my fault, other driver ticketed) and my wife was read ended a couple years before that.

The new roof shouldn't hurt you. They can't raise rates on an act of God claim. In fact, having a new roof should help lower your rates.

Rollo has helped us with vehicle and auto for several years. Been very happy with the service.

I switched to Amica a few months ago. I had been with Farmers for almost 25 years but noticed that the .5% deductible on my home got switched to 2% last year negating any reason for me to stay with them because they were more expensive than just about everyone. The savings were quite significant so I switched home, auto, and umbrella to Amica. My understanding is that most insurers will only give 2% on new policies which was I was reluctant to switch from Farmers for so long but Amica still gave me a 1% deductible. My wife's nephew is a roofer and I asked him if he knew anything about Amica before I switched to them and he told me that they had a good reputation for paying out claims.

Home is $2200 less with Amica than Farmers. I was paying about $700 less per 6 months for auto with Amica but after adding our 16 year old daughter to our policy a couple of months ago, our policy went up about $700. No idea what Farmers would've charged to add our daughter. Umbrella is $1200 less with Amica than Farmers.

However, my agent is not local and I think on the east coast. I don't know if they have local agents, it's just who I got assigned when I applied. If you want a local agent, Amica may not be for you.

I don't especially care where my agent is. Not like I've ever had any help from one. If I have a claim, I don't go to my local agent… I get to talk to some person in a call center.

Amica is a great company. Had them for years until they went to a 2% wind and hail deductible and started depreciating roof coverage.

You might want to check with them again because I got 1% for wind and hail deductible. I just checked my policy again just to be sure.

Owning a house is becoming a rich man's game.

When you make a claim, you run the risk of your insurance tripling or getting canceled.

I know someone that simply called about seeking claim information, and their insurance went up 15% just for the inquiry.
