I'm copying this over from a post I made in the football forum as I was told I'd get a better response here:

Been a while since I've posted on here, but I'd like to remember my days as a friendly visitor, not a combative agitator. Hopefully that will convince some of you to give me some recs for College Station.

Both of my boys (7 & 11) run summer track through TAAF, and qualified for the state meet next week in CS. We are staying at the A&M Hotel and Conference Center, but it's been a while since I've been to town, and I don't know much about local restaurants. Preferably local stuff I can't find everywhere else. We'll also have a little free time to explore, and I plan to take them to the Bush Presidential Library, but would love additional family-friendly recs if you've got some. I'll go ahead and warn you, my oldest will probably do some walking around in his Tech shirts when not wearing his Decatur Track Club gear, but he's a well-behaved and respectful Red Raider.

We get there Thursday and will be staying until Sunday. Thanks in advance!

I will pass on two places to eat but they are both in Bryan.

Longhorn Tavern has a great lunch special. You can pick from few items and two sides. Example CFS, home cut French fries and a side salad. Includes beverage. They also have great pies. Buttermilk is at the top.

If you like Mexican. Hermana Marques is my go to. Everything on the menu is good. My fav is their carne Guisada. If you look it up on GPS it's actually under Mi Pueblito. Needs updated.

As far as activities. There's a new put-put place close to century square not far from campus that looks cool but myself have not checked out.

Dixie Chicken always a must

Make sure you take them to Aggie Park just east of Kyle Field and can take them into MSC to look around.

Chimys and Fuego are fun spots to eat at.

Theres a PopStroke near Campus and TopGolf in Bryan

Theres a few good brunch spots around town

All the things in the post above are great as well.

There is a creamery in Aggie Park, which is walkable from the A&M hotel. Go get ice cream there, then walk around the park.

Taco Crave - homemade street tacos

Margies - amazing burgers cooked on a cast iron flat top stove

Anchor Bar - wings and pizza are a favorite of my 11- and 14-year-old boys

My boys loved Popstroke as well

No patty melts at The Chicken anymore I hear

JJ's snow cones

"Creamery"

I haven't seen any ice cream being made there. Maybe they make it and package it in the back?

Fuego. Closed Mondays. Your boys will love it.

Hullabaloo Diner in Wellborn. Open Thursday and Friday evenings (pizza on Fridays and some other diner offerings) and open 9am-3pm Saturday and Sunday.

Marfa for a little bit more upscale dining but not super fancy.

La Bodega is back and on the south end of town.

Excellent Mexican food at Frida's on Texas at North, it's not too far into Bryan from College Station. Fancier than Fuego but prices are reasonable.

Congrats on your kids making the state meet! My nephew will be in town running as well!

For at least one meal, walk around century square and find something unique for everyone. We like doing breakfast there either at Sweet Paris or MESS Waffles.

For street tacos - Taco Bar

For other standard mexican food - Maria Mia

For birria tacos - Don Chente

Breakfast tacos - Jessies, La Botana a close 2nd

Wings are plentiful. I still like wings and more even though they are smaller. I like pluckers over anchor bar and haven't tried Bubbas yet

Burgers - Dixie Chicken and Margies. different but I like both

I won't weigh in on chicken strips but Lane's, Cane''s and Chicken Express all serve plenty. Just not my things

Chinese is also plentiful. Tjin and chef cao are both good. Imperial is also good. Kind of depends which dish as to which is better to me

Pizza. Honestly to me the only stand out is Rough Draught but I doubt you want to take kids to a northgate bar outside the chicken even though it is laid back so likely would be fine. There is a slice shop, Champions, that is OK if you just want a quick slice

BBQ 1775 is the destination spot. The rest are pretty much same quality

For entertainment. Pop Stroke, Top Golf, Grand Station. For kids that age probably reverse order is what they would enjoy best. At least my grandkids prefer them in that order

Century square - lots of restaurants there, they have outdoor areas for the kids to run around if not too hot. They usually have music on several nights. PopStroke is also next to Century Square, which has been mentioned several times. There's a movie theater in century square as well if trying to escape the heat.

Top Golf is in Bryan's Midtown Park.

I am not sure if the Bombers will be playing while you are in town, but that is something to consider as well. They have a Tech player or two on their roster.

The pavilion at the Bush Library has the locomotive and helicopter and is free to enter. Daisy's Table is a very good little restaurant located in the pavilion, as well. https://daisystx.com/

Check out a movie at the renovated Queen Theater in downtown Bryan and have lunch at Billy's Grille and Bar, Margie's or one of the Mexican places downtown. Fantastic Four is playing this weekend. The kids can see what a classic single screen theater is like.

Competitive youth track starts at around age 6. Not generally tied to your school, and runs like most other club/travel sports.
