Has anyone used AB Hormone? How was it? Are their prices competitive?

I have seen good things on the BCS Women's Connect Group on Facebook, but I was unhappy with my experience.

If you don't bill the initial bloodwork through your insurance, it's $300 for the bloodwork and $200 for the initial sit-down consultation to go over results and come up with a plan, if I remember correctly. I know I bought some supplements, and my total was $700 for the testing + initial appointment + plus whatever supplements. They do allow you to split this into installments, if needed.

When I first called and talked to the person on the phone, they assured me that even though I am on oral birth control, my hormone levels can be tested and the birth control usage "will be taken into account." Despite hearing this from the male receptionist, I again asked the doctor I met with at my initial appointment. She also said, yes, your hormone levels can be tested, and we take into account the oral birth control pill when reviewing the results.

Flash forward: they prescribed me progesterone. I waited to begin taking it since I had a regular follow up scheduled with my PCP the next week.

My PCP said she had never heard of someone doing hormone testing while on birth control. It makes the results null and void. She said maybe something had changed and she would consult her colleagues in OB/GYN and family health fields.

She called me back and basically said it's a waste of money, again said the results were invalid, and *DO NOT* take the progesterone. Birth control by design makes your progesterone levels low, so it makes no sense to then prescribe it.

I was deficient in some vitamins (iron, Bs and D) and started taking supplements, first purchased from AB, and then found alternatives of the same on Amazon. That information was not worth $700 to me, though.

If you have insurance then see an endocrinologist.

I seriously doubt you saw a physician. These quack shacks are designed for one thing....make money for the clinic.

Shockingly, they have an MD. He's an old obgyn. Probably got tired of taking call and delivering babies.

Personally, I try to avoid any practitioner who also sells supplements.

I bet he doesn't even see patients and just collects a check. Like Medi WeightLoss has an absentee OBGYN.

So much this. If they are doing tests at their own lab ($$) that insurance will not cover (because they are unproven) then telling you to take vitamins that only they can provide ($$) it is a snake oil business.

Yeah... the supplement sales were a red flag. I should have trusted my gut. When you're desperate to feel better, you put faith in the wrong people sometimes. Expensive lesson.
