Friend of mine who lives in new Zealand has a daughter that is going to come to TAMU for a single semester to experience the US and finish her math degree...

they were asking how we could get her a car that she only going to need for 6 months or should we talk scooter? She might be living with us and would be in the north part of Bryan, so thats why im thinking a scooter might not be the best option.. or are they?

Scooter from there would be a no-go for anyone I wanted to keep upright for a semester.

If she wants a US college experience, I'd find a place close to campus and then she could def walk and scooter to and from campus. If she's looking for just a semester, she can likely find a deal on a sublease.

A scooter could work as long as there is no need to take the bypass. You want to be on roads with 40 mph max on those little things.

and by scooter I am talking about a moped, not a stand up electric scooter thing. I know Scoots does offer rentals.

Maybe become the one rider, on a typically empty Brazos Transit bus?

Agreed.

She's not going to get a U.S. college experience living in North Bryan with a family.

Live in one of the new luxury dorms across University and an e-bike to get to the Blocker Building, CVS for groceries and North Gate for entertainment.

interesting that she is able to drop in for a single semester, find the right classes to take, and 'finish her math degree'.

is this a NZ university that has an agreement with TAMU? did she get admitted for a single semester?

It's that or she dons The One Ring and launches a siege of Orcs and Goblins onto Aggieland, and releases a Balrog from the steam tunnels.

even more interesting how she matches up an A&M semester with her NZ school schedule.

Riiiiiiight? The only things close to this I've ever heard of is the corps exchange program (I don't know exactly what it's called)

Any solution depends on the budget. Here are two ideas, if you're dead set on a car and not a Moped/Scooter

The cheapest for your own vehicle is probably to buy a modest $3,000-$4,000 car and sell it at the end of the stay.

For a little more price and convenience, you can get a multi-month Turo rental for a basic economy car for ~$600-700/mo.

Nothing says authentic American experience like car dependency!

Studio One lives about 8 miles north of campus, so I don't even think renting a scooter is really a safe commute.
