We've heard for years that the Presidential Library in CS has requested one of the two retiring AF1's for permanent display. Nobody has ever confirmed a final decision, a date, or a timeline for Air Force decision making.

A lot of posts have gone out in the last 24 hours that one of the two 747's just completed it's last tour of duty as AF1. When will we find out if this one might be retiring in Aggieland?

Even if SAM 29000 is officially done, they'll likely keep it in reserve for a while in the event the other VC-25A or the VC-25B Bridge (as the gifted 747 is called by the AF) have an issue and can't make the trip.

Given just how bad it is going with the VC-25Bs, it is another 3-4 years away before they enter service; assuming Boeing can pull their collective head out of where the sun doesn't shine.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I just read an article that the two 747's that they have been using will be retained and used for international flights because they have mid air refueling capability and the new bridge 747 does not. It said these will be kept in the fleet until the new ones are delivered in estimated 2028.
