My long time internal medicine physician is moving to a concierge medical practice in Austin. I live in Georgetown and don't want to deal with the distance or traffic at my age.

I'm on Medicare so that may make finding a physician a bit more challenging.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Good luck in your hunt for a unicorn. I've had two internals retire/concierge leave the insurance market. Every doctor in a 10 mile radius is not taking new patients.

I got a referral to a neurologist last week and they called back yesterday with an appointment date for…..September 14th! I had to laugh.

I used to see Dr. Richard Wiseman (Wiseman Family Practice).

If I had something wrong, he'd sit down with me, go through medical journals/books...call other doctors for their advice, all while I was sitting in his office.

He cared.

His son Jeremy took it over. It's now just a 'doc-in-the-box' operation, with multiple locations. They confirmed this week, you cannot see an MD, unless you're part of their 'subscription' service (ie. he went to concierge service only). You can see a NP or sometimes PA. In my experience, sometimes you need an MD, and a little more experience, to diagnose certain issues.

They're making a lot more money now, but the patient care is terrible. We've tried to find other options, but more and more it's going this way.

I understand some of the complications of running a practice these days, and the fact payouts have decreased and costs have increased. But I'd love to find a family doctor/internist in the area, who was focused on just being a good doctor.

I seriously doubt he will. Our community is lacking basic medical care. I've got the best insurance you can get yet can't see a doctor of my own choosing. Frustrated

Well I like my RR based Doctor but it is a concierge practice. So probably no help.
