My tax return is just complicated enough that I don't trust myself to get it right (and I don't want to beat my brains out reading the tax code), but likely very straightforward for a CPA.

I had a big firm do it for a few years. They charged $500 per year, and indescrimately had me file an extension every year and recommended an overly conservative estimated payment.

Then I found a one-man shop who prepared the return within a few days at a cost of $150. Sadly, he retired.

What say you, Austin Aggies? What local CPA can prepare my relatively easy return quickly at a reasonable price?

1. Most CPAs file extensions unless they only do a small number of returns. This should not bother you.
2. Estimating taxes are tough period. Most CPAs use the same SW which will just base the number on your w2 wages/withholding and tax gap to avoid the penalty thresholds. If you want better you need to do calculations quarterly based on real income details.
3. $150 is dirt cheap that is about 1 hour of time for the average CPA. This is going to be tough to find.
