How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looking for a recommendation for an HVAC contractor Northwest Austin. This is for my mother who is 93. Need somebody that won't try to take advantage of her, or anyone else for that matter!

Thanks!

Casa Mechanical did my new unit 2 years ago and I have been pleased. Referred them to a neighbor and they are happy to. Gino was my contact, (512) 516-9784. He was polite, knowledgeable, and his team did a great job. Good luck.

I use Morgan Air (512) 990-7378

They are usually able to get out here pretty quickly.

Servize Wizard

We've used those both in the past. Pricer but they do good work.

Can second Gino at Casa. He did our new 3.5 ton at about 70% of what everyone else wanted to charge. Even replaced the condensing unit for free that had just gone out of warranty.

Chez is awesome. He has refused to take money in the past. Hes shown up in short notice on a Sunday and didn't charge extra. He came on Halloween once and only took candy as payment. Hes the only one I'll call when we have any issues with our older system.

Legend Service Co

(512) 698-6298. His name is John

I got quotes from ABC via Costco and Stan's. ABC's price was ridiculous. Stan's was still high.

A neighbor gave us Legend's #. I was uneasy at first b/c it is a small company, no big website, etc. Price much cheaper. I talked to him on the phone for a while. Very nice. Basically, he is an older gentleman that believes in taking care of his customers. Gets most of his business from referrals. I would rec him. We had a great experience with his team.

He is based in Kyle but def does work in NW Austin.

Anyone have a general guideline for what to expect for 3-3.5 ton cost?

And more importantly - are they all hit/miss these days? Trane/lennox/carrier

They are all basically the same these days… pretty crappy. We just had ours replaced and our HVAC guy told us it really doesn't matter anymore.

Think we paid around 13K, no idea on exact tonnage though so I would need to look.

Be careful, some of the quotes we got were insane. Grande quoted us at 27K.

They definitely charge for that 24/7 availability.

I've learned my lesson and won't reach out to them for any after hours work in the future.

I was a happy customer of ABC for almost 20 years, then a series of bad experiences made me fire them. I was probably too patient because they were Aggie owned. The two worst experiences involved electrical and plumbing.

The first fiasco started when I hired them to install an electric car charger. They talked me into trenching around the back of my house rather than running wire through the attic to the garage. ABC showed up with a huge trenching machine and killed a mature native tree, gutted my sprinkler system, and damaged a gate in the process. It took months of phone calls to get things mostly fixed.

About the time the trenching damage was finally addressed, the new 50 amp receptacle threw a shower of sparks one day when my wife plugged the attached charger into her car. I unplugged the charger from the wall and the new receptacle was melted and charred. The ABC electrician said the receptacle must have been faulty but I suspect he hadn't tightened the terminals.

It took some work, but ABC eventually made things right so I stayed with them.

The final straw came when I hired ABC to replace a gas water heater in my attic. That night at bedtime my kids complained of a funny smell in an upstairs bedroom. The plumber had not tightened a gas fitting and the attic reeked of gas. Their on-call plumber was already busy when I called. They sent someone the next morning to fix it and turn the gas back on.

I decided two serious fire/safety hazards was enough and cancelled all ABC services.
