Housing market is nuts. Lots of bad Asian drivers. Great variety of food options. Good schools.

Brush up on your urdu and hindi.

Been out this way for almost two years and absolutely love it.
Tons of stuff to do with the family. We outgrew our home in Spring Branch and everything here is much more family friendly (sidewalks, pools, parks).

Housing market gets absolutely insane when summer starts rolling around.

Great for swingers nowadays from what I hear.

Used to live there, and liked it, but it's busy and packed; like most master planned communities.

Schools, especially the elementary schools, are top-notch.

Greatwood is zoned to the Lamar Consolidated school district, whereas the rest of Sugar Land is in Fort Bend ISD.

A decade or two ago, moving to Fort Bend schools would have been a no-brainer. Not so sure today. The aging and decline of many Sugar Land neighborhoods has really changed the schools.

On the other hand, Lamar is gaining lots of new growth, especially in Richmond and along the 99 corridor.

After the 15-20 min it takes to get out of your neighborhood and on to the highway.

I guess the question is, what suburb on the west side should one target then? My office is in Westchase (Westheimer & Beltway 8) so Sugarland is currently at the top of our list. We are also considering Pearland (westside), east area of Katy, Cy-Fair / Cypress, and even Meyerland... Just from our initial scouting, Sugarland has the best feel to it to us at least.

Thanks,
Brian

Oh. I would recommend Greatwood or Greatwood Lakes

Its fully built out, so that kind of traffic is done. Great schools, close to 99/59, but it is a very cookie cutter neighborhood and most houses are now 20-30 years old.

I'm in Sugarwood, easy access to the highway and don't have to mess with Hwy 6 if I don't want to. Older homes but all custom. Been great for us so far and there are some other Ags with kids here.

I spent 20+ years working at BW8 and Westpark Tollway. I've lived in the old part of Sugar Land since 1978. If you are at BW* and Westheimer, depending on the time you start work, 59 to BW8 is the way to go. Wait too long and you'll regret it.

Drove past an Indian wedding celebration in Sugar Land a month or so ago. The groom was on a horse surrounded by what looked like a couple hundred people entering the gates of this big house!

Apparently the horse entrance is a tradition.

Used to be, when you saw a horse at a wedding in Texas, the groom was wearing a cowboy hat.

What is your price point and how concerned are you about being in the top tier of schools in a school district versus just being in a good school district?

If you're in westchase, none of the 'best schools' in each of the school districts are close to the boundary edge. Are you planning on taking westpark tollway every day or take westheimer in if you live in katy? Also, if you choose E Katy, S. Fry Road from South Peek up to roughly Greenwind Chase was shut down after Harvey because of flooding coming up from the reservoir.

If I was choosing E Katy, and assuming you post on the Texags millionaires thread, I would look at Cinco Ranch by the beach club or Grand Lakes.
