Randy was a great listen…you could tell sometimes he got a little testy with his callers, but all in all he seemed like a great guy. Also, I still follow his schedule till this day, as stated in another post, I had his schedule up in my garage, now I know it by memory,

I did as well...though I'm more concerned about the pre-emergent than the fertilizer.

Per Randy's schedule above - he always said that the threshold was 3+ inches in the week after fertilizer (IIRC)...after that he said re-apply at 1/2 the original amount.

Neither the GFS nor the Euro are showing any freezes in the Houston area out through March 8th FWIW. Our typical last freeze is before about March 15th. So unless there is something coming in the 2nd week of March or the long range models are inaccurate (very possible), we are likely to be done with the hard freezes for this winter.

I just saw you all are talking about Randy Lemmon. I worked with him back from 1989-1991 at the Radio & Communication Dept of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service in the old McDonald Building. It was my job when I was a student and it was great. And Randy was such a nice guy, always working with me to learn how to do the job. So sad on his passing a little while back.

IANAM, but neither the GFS nor the Euro show any temps into the 30s or below for the Houston area out through the 2nd week of March, which is usually about when the latest freeze would usually be expected. So barring anything fairly unusual beyond that, I would guess we are in the clear for freezes.

Worked out pretty perfectly for me getting fertilizer and barricade down last Saturday before the soaking rain and now sunshine this week.

Cutting back the crepe myrtles and maybe some crawfish are on deck for this weekend.

Wish I had done that. Probably too late for the barricade now. My grass is growing like crazy

my ace in Richmond is where i get my fertilizer.....better selection than HD or Lowes

Houston Garden Centers have a great selection and they usually have them on sale
