I rented in the burbs for a couple of years in my 20s. Great deals to be had but I would not recommend it.

You want to be around young people.

Last thing you want to do on a Friday night is commute home, collapse on the couch, then have to quickly shower and get changed and get back one the freeways to drive 30 minutes into town and hope to find a parking spot at whatever place your friends are going to.

You check uber and it's $58 one way, with an unknown price home later.

If he lives in the Heights he can walk to the bar or get a cheap uber. No stress about parking or having to drive out to the burbs after a fun night out.

You know this is authentic because it even has the canned '30 minutes into town' thing going on it.

It takes 30 minutes to get ITL no matter where you live OTL.

I graduated in 2024 and lived at home for about a year in Dallas. I just accepted a job offer in Houston but not too sure on good places to live/rent in your early to mid 20s. Any suggestions?

The Heights is always packed with twenty-something's. Lots of bars, restaurants, good grocery stores, and everything else you'd want. Plenty of quality "company" male or female (;whatever floats your boat). Great place to start your profession life.

Lots of culture and social networking in Porter.

OP will be going opposite of rush hour traffic if he lives in town. That is on his side. Heights area or in that vecinity.
There are some real jokesters on here suggesting the shi**iest parts of town.

Bush airport area could also mean a viable option is to live in an apartment by Daiken Park. Then go north on 59 in the morning. Depending on where his exact work location is. Bush is kinda in the middle between 45 and 59.

I would still recommend something more like the Heights given his age. Stros traffic probably gets annoying after a while.

Not to mention 59 construction project just about to start up and tear everything up in the area

I'd only do this if you are working east of the IAH.

Honestly, "Opposite of rush hour" is kind of a load of crap these days. So many younger people have opted for the social life over the suburbs and the commuters going OTL are almost as bad as the commuters coming ITL these days.

Yup. Pretty much anything inside the Beltway either direction is kind of bad during rush hour and anything inside 610 is worse either direction during rush hour. If you live in town, you aren't saving any time commuting by 'counter flow'.

Transtar data for the most part bears out minor differences broadly when you look at the data each direction.

Hell, I drive "opposite of rush hour" between Spring & The Woodlands and even that can be a PITA between 8-10 AM and between 3-7 PM. Non-rush hour takes me 20 mins. During rush hour can take me 40-45 mins.

I'm not complaining too much. It still beats my Spring to NRG commute. But there is no such thing as "opposite of rush hour" traffic when it comes to Houston.
