I have about 5 acres on our home place in East Texas that I'd be interested in talking to you about. I could also start referring you to clients who buy acreage around Houston as well. Its always fun to build my network of Aggie professionals for my clients.

Read an article about a company in West Texas that uses goats around solar panels, where it is harder to mow and weed eat.

Turn out 15 Spanish goats per acre in the morning. Come back later that afternoon. Weeds, brush and all the goats will be gone.

the AI Data Center environment must have infected the goats.

I was going to say, I hope OP has a good herding dog. We raised goats when I was younger and even with a good fence, they find a way to escape. I can't imagine turning them loose without knowing what kind of fence they will be in.

Looking at electric netting from Premier 1, no herding dog but a good LGD.

Spent a lot of time with goats and I know they're terrible, wanting to try at the house to work out the kinks

Being this Houston board, this thread is not what I was expecting. Thought we were talking about impeccable stripper self grooming at the church or pirate ship.

Have you thought about a Judas goat instead of very expensive fencing you'd have to take down and put up over and over?

there is now some pretty good tech out there on virtual fencing. you put shock collars on the animals, then you train them in enclosed area they can't escape. you draw out boundary, then they get zapped.

Just like you'd have in your yard for a dog.

If you where going to move goats around to different places, i would use this along with portable electric fencing to keep those suckers in

Think some of y'all might be misunderestimating the stubbornness and stupidity and craziness of goats.

I've seen that virtual fencing, looks like cool tech but idk if i trust it yet. Goats are little houdinis, plus if your running 35-50 head of goats out there, that gets pricey quick not to mention charging and labor to put them on. Plus I worry about working the goats up, worst thing is an amped up goat. The premier1 fence netting has a high rating, and seems to be a popular option for temporary fencing needs. Plus for 800 bucks you get like 300 ft of electric fence, charger and ground rods.

Far as judas goats, i had to look those up. I wonder about training and with the same worries as the invisible fencing, I have 0 experience with stuff like that. It's always, panels, fence or wire to keep them in.
