Mariners fan here but I come in peace.

The girlfriend and I are heading to Houston Saturday to watch the Astros/Mariners game. We're staying at the Westin right next to the stadium.

Any recommendations on where to walk before the game to watch some CFB and maybe snack on some food? Game is at 6PM so don't necessarily need a dinner spot.

Also any other recs in the area are appreciated. I imagine we'll have a few hours to kill prior to the game. Both in our mid 30s if that helps with recs.

Thanks all.

Biggio's right there in the lobby of the Marriot Marquis is a good spot.

Just a couple blocks from the park, tons of TVs, and good food and drinks (bar food and light fare).

Walk around over by the soccer stadium. Lots of bars right there. Find one you like and post up. Really cool area that wasn't much when I was that age. Then take a rickshaw back to the stadium and watch your team lose.

How about to the nearest church to get married instead of fornicating at the Westin.

We'll save that for Sunday.

Vic and Anthony's food/ bar are the best. But also expensive. Easy walk to the game.

True Anomly and Equal Parts are solid breweries close by. True Anomly is walking distance and Equal Parts a close train ride.

Best college football watching downtown is Tom's Watch bar. Probably best to take a cheap lyft.

Eight Row Flint (whiskey and cocktail lounge, has lots of TVs to watch sports and is two rail stops from the stadium. This would be my best recommendation that wont be too packed before the game.)

Other Bars for after the game or whatever:
Moon Tower Inn (cool patio taphouse that makes their own exotic sausages and brats and such, No TVs)
Neil's Bahr (Cool retro game themed bar)
Cidercade (Bar with oldschool arcade / pinball)
Joystix (Similar to Cidercade but with some newer arcade stuff too)

Dinner or other meals if staying more days:
Tiny Champions (Among the best pizza in Houston and a cool vibe, get reservations)
Original Ninfa's on Navigation (One of the original/best Tex-Mex joints in Houston, but take an Uber to it, dont try to walk. The area is still trying to gentrify.)
Nancy's Hustle (Mid/Nice restaurant that has a big following, get reservations)

Plenty of breweries in that area if that's your thing

(These suggestions are in no particular order. Just check them out and see if they fit what you might be looking for.)

A few of these places are right along the rail, if you want to save on Uber cost. Just do a google route search and select the public transportation option to get the route from your hotel or ballpark.

Xochi. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but it's in the same hotel as Biggio's. Oaxacan cuisine, so not Tex-Mex like some of the other recommendations, but the food and drink is VERY good.

Probably because it would be a terrible place to watch college football

Irma's Original.

They've gotten so expensive, though. You can park in their lot (it still costs money over and above dinner) but it's close and a fairly easy exit after the game.

Irmas was a better deal when you could park for free if you ate there before the game. Jackson St BBQ was a good pregame too before it closed.

We like to go to Osso & Kristalla when we are in town for a game.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be a nice change of pace closer to gametime after sitting at a sports bar all afternoon. I wouldn't sit there and watch college football all day either.

Frost Town brewing is new and supposed to be pretty cool. I haven't been but heard good things.
