UPDATED 4/26/26

It's that time of year again. Up for grabs this year are Positions 1, 2, and 3. I will update this OP as candidates' websites come online, as well as other information comes out.

Position 1 Candidates

Courtney Anderson

--Current board member who was originally elected in 2023. She ran on the conservative slate in 2023. Most recently, at the 3/23/26 board meeting, she commented that "I'm frustrated because I think we need to do some alleviating at Memorial Middle School as well. And while we are doing this and discussing it all … to me it makes sense to talk about the zones all at once."

The implication is that she would be fine/like to re-zone Rummel and Wilchester to Spring Forest Middle.

Having spoken with people close to the board that have interacted with her, they tend to think of her as self-centered and only focused on the Villages. If you are anyone outside of the Beltway and zoned to MMS, should vote for Smelley.

J Steven Smelley

--Former Fort Bend ISD board member (10 Years) who ran last cycle. He has a long career in business social service, and appears to be a conservative, by all accounts. He is not likely to rock the boat, but, being newer to the area, will not have the same squeaky wheels to grease that Andreson currently has.

Position 2 Candidates

Jeri Spence

--This one is a hard ABSOLUTELY NOT. She is endorsed by our own nutjob liberal Bean Bag Space Cadet who ran last cycle and was defeated by a wide margin:

I would urge you all to scroll Bean Bag Space Cadet's facebook page. It is bonkers, and if she is telling you to vote for someone, you should probably do the opposite.

Ted Tredennick

--I do not know alot about Ted, but what I have heard from people I trust has been positive. He is a lawyer by trade and an active member of Second Baptist. That said, he is also tied to the representation of disgraced GOP bigwig Paul Pressler and all the allegations surrounding Kanakuk s*xual abuse.

Sally Cone

--Sally is the wife of Matt Cone, who ran and lost last cycle. I know they have kids in SBISD and live in the Villages. Her husband was attacked relentlessly last cycle for reasons that remain unapparent to me other than he is out-&-out conservative and not scared to rock the boat with the status quo in district administration.

I know Ted Tredennick personally. He is a very, very good man and shares the same values as most of us on these threads have. He's a solid choice for the board.

Edit to add: two of his kids graduated SBISD and he has one still in HS here.

Another recommendation for Ted Tredennick.

J Steven Smelley (terrible name)

--Former Fort Bend ISD board member (10 Years) who ran last cycle and was soundly defeated. From what I can tell, there is not much known about him other that that he is a boomer with no kids currently in SBISD. This seems like a hobby project. That alone should probably be disqualifying.

How common is this? Losing one ISD school board election and then moving on to another?

I'm aware there are serial candidates out there like Chris Bell who has run for everything from dog catcher to city council to mayor to congress to governor, but running for board positions in two different school district seems odd.

Sounds a lot like Fort Bend County's own Eliz Markowitz.

She's run for:

Texas State Board of Education District 7 - LOST
Texas House of Representatives District 28 - LOST
Katy ISD School Board - LOST
Currently running for Texas House of Representatives District 26.

Zero self awareness. Narcissism is a hell of a drug.

Smelley was a FBISD trustee for something like 10 years and in 2009, he decided not to run again.

He ran for the SBISD board in the last election and lost.

His ex-wife was the director of the FBISD Education Foundation for many years. After they divorced, I guess he moved into the Spring Branch district.

Just google that fat cow and see what fun you find. Complete nutjob.

As noted above, I know Ted personally so just throwing out the typical full disclosure there. I've also voted for Matt Cone before so I'm not totally against his/Sally's positions.

That said: I'm voting for Ted. Even if it wasn't Ted running and it was another conservative minded person that loves the district, I wouldn't vote for anyone in the Cone family. I truly believe having the Cones on the Board will be, to put it mildly, disruptive.

I'll be voting today.

What makes you want to vote for him just because you know him? Accepting an endorsement from Lacey Hull makes it a pretty easy hard pass.

I preferred your little pre-edit rant about the congregation of Second Baptist being poor decision makers.

What is it about the Cone family that would be disruptive?
