Howdy! Its been 4 years since we've been to Galveston and wanted to get some updated restaurant recs.
We will mostly eat at the house but would appreciate a rec for a family restaurant. Not high end. Has a mix of seafood and meat and also kids menu.
Also need rec for seafood lunch. I know shrimp & stuff has been recommended previously.
Lastly, need rec for seafood market. I know not to go to Katies.

We have stayed in condos on West End and RV park across San Luis pass. both times we have eaten at Nates. Its a dive, but we enjoyed the food! The Fried Oysters were the best we had!

Little Daddy's Gumbo bar by the strand has good food.

What is wrong with Katie's?
Good food.

If staying on West End Sea Isle has a good restaurant.

Nates WAS a good "joint". Owner died and it went in the dumper... rumors it will reopen, hasn't happened yet.

Number 13 is the best upscale place. Maceo's has the best muffaletta you'll ever eat. Great gumbo, too. Great little local place.

I would add Rudy & Paco's and Prime 13 to this. Would also add Palmetto Osteria in evia for Italian. it's semi-west end. Fantastic and is in the old 1817 space. Would throw in Vargas and San Luis Steakhouse as well for steaks.

I see something called Riondo's on Galveston.com . Has anyone been? Any good?

That's Island, we'll check it out.

One that never gets mentioned that shouldn't be overlooked is Yamato. We eat there all the time, including last night, and it's very good. You can get excellent sushi (and hibachi) in galveston. Seriously.

Katie's is way overrated!! And as the other poster stated, the owner is rude.

Try Coastal Grill, Venados in Jamaica Beach, and Miller's.

I apologize for just getting back to this. Thank you again for the recommendations and we will definitely try these recs next year.
My inlaws went to Galveston last fall and while they were there ate at Katies and "enjoyed it". They wanted to go back even after I gave the group y'alls recommendations. So we went and man is it overrated. I had the beer battered red snapper and gulf shrimp w/ fries for $42. Very average. My wife got the "jumbo" gulf grilled shrimp w/ sauted veggies. The shrimp were definitely not jumbo and the veggies seemed like they were straight out of the freezer. My mother in law, doesn't eat seafood, got the grilled chicken covered w/ cheese and hollandaise sauce w/ the spare veggies. I've had better seafood meals at pappadeux

I've honestly never had a bad meal at Katie's but it is expensive. I'd rather go to R&P or Gaido's for those prices.

what do you order at katies?

Grouper sandwich, shrimp
po boy, or fresh catch of the day.

Shrimp and Stuff or Benno's.
