Dropped my 100 off at Discount today for tires and wheels. Got a call from them about an hour later, which I thought was awfully quick. Turns out one of the wheels they received was an 8 lug, even though it was in the correct 5 on 150 box. So maybe I'll have them mounted by the end of the week.

If any of the 100s here have upgraded skids and still have the OE skid from under the front diff/oil pan, let me know. Missing half of mine and want to replace.

Lame post because it involves the stock running boards, but I was crawling under our 01 yesterday and saw wiring going to the boards. I had no clue there were lights in there. Replaced the bulbs with 891s and all work. Super dim and not all that functional, but I ordered some Amazon led replacements to get it a little brighter.

Has little puddle lights too

Did this yesterday:

Came in from the Ouray side. Kept up with the group of heavily modified Jeeps I was with. Would not have been possible without the work Steve at Northwest Design & Fabrication did for us last fall. Can't recommend him highly enough. 3" OME lift and new BFG 285s. It was a tough test but I think we survived without any damage. This time last year we were trying to sell this truck but glad we decided to keep it and reinvest.

It's beautiful up there. Snow blockages anywhere being this early?

It was an amazing and terrifying experience! Even snagged a little brook trout from one of the lakes up there. Some snow still on the trail but not blocking it. They had less snow this year and trail was 100% open as of a couple of weeks ago. I want to explore some of the other routes up to this pass because the one we did was pretty brutal and I know there is no effing way my wife would ride with me on that one! Hell, I don't know that I'd be comfortable riding shotgun with some of those drop offs inches from the tires!

I get a lot more anxious these days driving on trails like that. It may have to do with old age or it may have to do with the time my tire slipped while crossing a snow pile...sliding to the edge and just barely grabbing a slight indent on the edge. Being on a couple tires teetering back and forth doesn't scare me like edge drops.

I used to identify which trails to go on by making sure to mark the ones the rental agency "banned" me from getting near. lol to black bear pass

On my list but it sounds like the trail is in pretty rough shape this year. Rumor is the guy that runs the dozer that maintains the trail isn't well so the trail hasn't been groomed. This group of jeepers I was with tried Imogene the day before and didn't make it all the way. Hopefully will get better.

It is absolutely terrifying when you're crawling up the rocks, off balance leaning heavy toward the abyss, and then you start slipping toward the edge. I can't imagine being on a more slick surface. Should have worn my brown shorts yesterday

Anywhere in the BCS area that knows Land Cruisers that could install an OME lift on my 100?

Any chance LC300 Landcruiser makes it stateside? Have been going down a rabbit hole on them, and am really liking what I see.

I'm sure it will in Lexus trim.

It might in Toyota trim. Based on history, I think it will. Plenty of people predicting otherwise. The distribution network of Toyota in the US is so fragmented that I don't think anyone here really knows what the decision makers in Japan will do. I believe consensus on ih8mud is that it won't come to the US as a Toyota, but the same group absolutely knew that the 300 would be V8 powered and sold in the US 3 years ago based on things said by a US Toyota rep.

Yeah, that's a real bummer.

Still hoping they make it over here to ease the demand for 200 series

My neighbor works for Toyota corporate. He told me 6 months ago the LC isn't coming to America. He said nothing has changed when I asked him again 2 weeks ago. I suppose it doesn't mean it might not someday in the future. But the 2022 definitely is only coming in the form of Lexus.

I'm pretty sure it's not coming and they are retiring Sequoia after 2022. Replacing with a new platform for the US, at least hybrid possibly full EV.

Depending what they do with it in Lexus trim, I could live with it. Although, not in a rush for a new ride so ok to wait a few years.

Random question - it seems that a high number of FJ40's I see pop online for sale were purchased by the seller w/in the last year.

Is it common that these were purchases intended to flip? People scratching an itch to own a vehicle they've admired for a while then selling once the hunger is satisfied?

If these were intentional flips, is there a rule of thumb for what % are solid versus a lot of lipstick to cover the pig?
Centerpole90

I can't speak for every owner, but I can share personal experience of mine and a friend that I think it anecdotal about FJ40 purchases. I am sure a lot of people buy 40s to flip because the market was hot, is still kinda hot, even as the focus shifts to later LCs. So yes, there are a lot of speculators in the market. Last question first - YES, be wary, or at least educated in looking at 40s. I can't assign any exact percentages, but some are candy coated trouble, some are flat misrepresentations, and some are genuine peaches. They're all out there.

I also think that some people buy 40s with the intention of keeping them and quickly figure out that FJ40s aren't their cup of tea. You've read over and over they are small tractors and that is a fair comparison - they are stiff, ride like they are stiff, can have bad steering habits if not maintained, are powered by a 6 cylinder Chevrolet inspired power plant from the 30's, are prone to rust, should be sold with hearing protection, and generally feel like riding a roller skate at speeds above 50mph. Lots of folks fall in love with the idea of an FJ40 but once they own one find out they don't necessarily like FJ40s.

I love mine, but I'll admit that there was a short period of time I entertained the notion of selling it because I wasn't sure how I was going to enjoy it and justify owning it. After a while I came to appreciate it more and found it to be the inspiration to undertake a few new activities - now I wouldn't part with it. I also have a friend from church who was hell-bent on owning one so he went to Mecum and bought a fine, and very expensive, example. Within a year he was sick of it. He complained it was slow, rough riding, underpowered, and crude. I don't know what he thought he was buying - but he CLEARLY falls into what I think is a sizable subset of 40 owners: people who love the idea, but not the practice of having a 40.

You'll have to talk to potential sellers and glean from their stories which camp they are in.

I agree with all of this, knowing owners and having driven several 40's.

Not for me.
But those 1st gen 4 runners though

FJ40 was the first vehicle I ever drove when I was about 12 years old. Remember it was a rough ride and then crashing it into a pile of dirt to stop after my buddy told me the brakes didn't work and we were already moving down hill.

Finally figured out how to post pics:

My '04 the day I got it three weeks ago.

First step was removing steps and the peeling gold paint on the molding.

Next was 17" Icons and 285/70/17 KM3s, as well as WeatherTechs throughout.

Next thing on the agenda is a lift. Tires definitely rub a little more than I expected on the +25 wheel.

Long term plans include ARB front, rear bumper (TBD), roof rack (Prinsu?), and the other usual type mods for a camping/hunting/fishing rig.

Thank you sir! We've entertained getting a fun "fart around town on nice days" vehicle. Definitely will drive some with my wife if we someday get serious about it.

I'm sure it has been discussed, but replacement seat covers...What's the current go-to? I've seen Lseat thrown around with most people recommending pro installation. Thoughts?

I used Land Cruiser Heaven leather/vinyl combo seats - high quality and matched my interior colors very well.
