We picked up a new to us Suburban a few weeks ago. '23 model 3.0 Duramax with 4WD and the RST package. We were pretty specific in our search wanting the diesel and 4WD with a good chunk of warranty left. We've been very happy so far and have already put 4k miles on it over the last month towing our RV a few times and we just wrapped up a roadtrip over to North Carolina and back through the Smoky Mountains. Fuel mileage has been 13-14 towing our 5k lb bunkhouse RV around TX and we averaged about 27 for the full road trip out east with a mix of flat pavement, hills, and some mountain passes. For everyday driving in town it averages around 21.

We've got three kids in car seats and a 70lb retriever that rides around with us most places so the layout is great with the captains chairs. We put two car seats in the third row and leave one of the captains chairs free for my wife to sit in on long drives. The pup stretches out in the middle giving everyone pretty good space. I wasn't crazy about the tire and wheel package since I'm used to a little more aggressive all terrain look and beefier sidewall, but the 22s are growing on me so we may keep them for a while longer. Overall, happy with the combination of comfort, power, functionality, and efficiency. Hope to enjoy it for quite a few years.

Beautiful, really love the styling on this generation Tahoe/Suburban especially in specific trims.

Also would love to have that diesel, a diesel in a 3 row SUV is just really appealing to me.

Great reviews for this generation too, generally top rated 3 row large SUV.

I just can't bring myself to pay that much on a vehicle. This is just my hang up, I applaud others doing it.

Truck looks awesome, come back and give a real world review of the Diesel on down the road.

Yeah we wanted an SUV that could haul a big family with maximum cargo and still do truck stuff on the weekends like tow RVs, boats, and not get stuck on muddy roads getting into our East TX deer lease. My wife came out of a Suburban but it was getting up there in mileage on the original 5.3 powertrain so we rarely towed with it in favor of my Tundra. Given the fact that 90% of our weekend trips and summer vacations involve towing our RV somewhere we decided to go for something that did everything and offered maximum cabin comfort. Even the Tundra crewmax can feel small when you pile in three kids, a big dog, and some road bags/snacks.

Trust me I was second guessing myself up until the point of signing the final paperwork. Going the used route we saved about $20k versus new MSRP and we got a decent trade in, however, it was still by far the most we've ever spent on a vehicle. Our thinking is to keep this one for at least the next 8-10 years so I'll report in the future on long-term ownership.

It will be a great vehicle for your needs, have only heard positive things about the 3.0L Duramax including from personal friends.

I have a 2012 Toyota Sequoia that fits our entire family of 5 and while we have nothing to tow currently I've towed a travel trailer with it and wouldn't hesitate to again even though it's approaching 210K miles on the odometer. While it doesn't look as nice as the current Chevy's, with all the bells and whistles and even a little extra space, I got it so cheap and it runs so good it's just hard to justify something that would cost me 5 times what I could sell it for. My Sequoia is very clean and spacious but man that 14MPG gets old - but even saying that, this is an extra family car dedicated to road trips and dirty work only so I only put about 7K miles a year on it. You can hear me fighting the mental battle to not upgrade even as I type this.

I actually tried to talk my wife into a V8 Sequoia a year ago when we first started looking for another 3 row SUV, but she didn't go for it. So we saved for the latest gen Suburban. I hear you on mileage. My '21 Tundra is doing good to hit 14-15 and quickly gets cut in half towing anything with considerable weight. I drove the new Suburban to Atlanta on the first leg of our recent trip and averaged 29mpg on the first tank driving 75-80. With a fuel range up to 800 miles for highway driving you start looking for a rest stop way before you need to refuel.
