Looking to purchase a vehicle from an individual for my son who is turning 16 in October. Not looking to break the bank but would like something that is reliable without a ton of miles, but I'm open to hearing what anyone may have available. Please text me at nine 7 nine three 2 four 5 seven six 2.

Don't get a teenager a Jeep unless they learned to drive in one. My kids both had Jeeps but I had one at the time and that was the rule. They learned to drive without doors and no front sway bar, oversized mud tires and rhino liner on the floors instead of carpets. We went off roading regularly so they knew what they were capable of and more importantly what their limits were and how to do those things safely. It was an awesome Jeep but not comfortable like their mom's SUV. Then we drove theirs off roading so I could teach them in their own rig.

That aside I would have never gotten them a Jeep. You have no way of keeping him from getting convinced to do something he's not capable of handling unless you've taught him how to do it. I have a good friend who has a back injury from his teenage years when a friend rolled a Jeep doing something the friend wasn't experienced enough to do and my buddy got thrown and injured. Today that's a lawsuit and you're in a bad spot.

If you're asking for a reliable SUV, I'd recommend a 2020-2024 4Runner. I'm starting at 2020 as that's the first year they added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and that's handy for a new driver. Go older though if that's not important to you or if you're good with replacing the head unit.

A 4Runner would be super reliable, and is slow enough to keep a teenager from getting into too much trouble.

Some may disagree though citing crash and rollover ratings.

Reliable and Jeep are not compatible (I have owned 5 Jeeps)

Also, if you're talking about young people, heed the lessons learned from this Aggie.

Tacoma or 4Runner. Why? Reliable, slow, higher off the ground. Oh and low maintenance. And slow part is great for high schoolers.

Wouldn't a stick-shift 2011 ford ranger with the 4 slow (2.3) work too? Not sure if those are stupidly priced right now though. I have one but it was beat to s**** and half busted but it's a 4.0, so not in OP scope I think.

He's gonna have to learn how to drive a RWD in snow/ice/rain anyways, might as well do it in something that's inexpensive and has a lower center of gravity.
