My son (Class of 2030) has mean parents who make him buy his first car. He has been mowing, working as a lifeguard, etc and saving his money. He is looking for a four door Toyota Tundra, V8, hopefully 150k miles (range), welll maintained, 2wd is fine.
His max is $11,000 budget.

He will use it to earn money mowing, pressure washing, etc, while working towards a Horticulture degree. He will be at St. Mary's, fishing, or hunting otherwise.

Any potential truck owners out there looking to part with one?.

Gig em!
God's Peace,
Chuck

Good for him. However, just had mine valued at $20k. 2013 with 120k miles 4WD though. Hopefully someone has one. Used car prices are high due to the high new car prices.

ran a search through autotempest on 150K miles and clean title at 12K price point. Newest model that was available nationwide was an 08 . Most are 06 and older. Just trying to help. Used tundras drive a premium and that will be hard to find at $11,000 dollars. Hopefully yall know a friend of a friend. Good on him putting in the work

I'm afraid the $11k budget may be too low for what he's looking for. Tundra's really hold their value. It was in 2022, but I sold my 2014 Tundra Crewmax 2WD 5.7L with 130k miles to a Toyota dealership for $21k.

I did a quick search on Car Gurus and just about every listing at $11k max was older than 2010, had 250k+ miles or had been in an accident.

Good luck! Great job raising a responsible young adult!!

C'mon Dad, throw him a few extra sheckles and help him get a half-decent truck. If it's a Toyota, he will be able to drive it a long time.

That budget will get you a nice first gen Tundra with the 4.6.

Chucktheaggiejewler looking for "a diamond in the rough"

I'll see myself out.

Chuck, for reference, I have a kid in a 2017, 2WD Crewmax limited, 140k miles with slight hail damage, could trade/sell it tomorrow above $20k…got any Rolex's we can talk about?

Found an 07 Tundra 4 door (not Crewmax) very meticulously maintained truck, clean, with 265k miles under my son's budget. Any major concerns with that kind of mileage on a well maintained 07 Tundra?.

If it truly has been well maintained, and hasn't towed a lot, it's got a lot of miles left in it.

That's a very solid drivetrain. I'm assuming it's 2wd since you didn't specify otherwise, but no transfer case or front axles to worry about. Check for the last time the transmission fluid was changed. Toyota calls it lifetime, but in reality it should be changed every 75-100k miles.

The secondary air injection pump and the starter are under the intake manifold and are a pain to replace. There's a bypass kit for the former.

Inspect the suspension bushings, struts, and shocks. If they haven't been replaced yet, at that mileage, they'll need it.

I sold my '08 Taco for $13,000 last year with 200,000 miles and an intermittent "miss" (sounded like the spark plug would miss, had changed spark plugs, wires, and had injectors cleaned).

Toyota trucks hold their value. Might look at a Titan. That's what I ended up getting rather than a Tundra.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

The best part is seeing how happy he is after seeing his hard work yield results.
The second best part was my Class of 95' brother find a great match for my son.
