I figured as much. The rear leaf spring was sheared, and axle was all over the place.
Naturally driver at fault did not have insurance. yay.

Truck is totaled... the spare parts will sell for enough on the secondary market the insurance won't be out but a couple grand.

Yep, absolutely infuriating. Illegals (mostly) have made driving in Austin an absolute crap shoot. No driver licenses, no insurance, no knowledge of driving laws. Couple that with all of the food delivery and ride share idiots who have no idea where they're going and you have constant gridlock.

It's so defeating to "do the right thing" and be a normal law abiding citizen in these scenarios. The lady that hit me got a ticket, lit a cig and just walked off….on to the next car with no insurance I'm sure.
I don't know what the answer is to fix the problem, but there has to be some checks and balances on being insured etc.

My neighbor buys older vehicles, he's very frugal. He just carries liability insurance. His last 2 "cash" vehicles have been totaled in Austin by an illegal with no insurance. The last one banged him up pretty good, he was hit in the IRS parking lot by an illegal doing 50 MPH through the parking lot.

Yep. Should go straight to a detention center and then punted back across the border. Uninsured illegals piss me right the **** off.

There should be near-permanent consequences for those *******s (i.e. branding their forehead or worse), and I could probably be easily swayed for even stronger punishments. They actively make the decision that the law doesn't apply to them and the rest of us that are responsible have to pick up the tab.

Realistically, make it a non-dischargable debt that is garnished from any future paychecks, government benefits, foreign remittances, etc. until all parties are paid off. I don't have any hope that the oxygen thieves would change their behaviors, but at least we wouldn't be forced to pay for it.
