We're picking up a certified pre-owned Escalade from Sewell this week and they quoted $2,500 for a ceramic coating. That's a bit more than I was looking to pay.

From what I understand, there is also a ceramic wax that is good for about a year.

Anyone here have a recommendation or a contact for paint protection? The vehicle will likely be parked in the driveway unless I can get the garage completely re-organized/downsized.

Would you consider DIY? It really isn't that hard. Lots of videos online.

I considered it but I've never done it. I'd hate to mess up an Escalade with the onyx package

If you are semi handy DIYer than you can do it. Watch some pan the organizer or DIY detail videos online YouTube which cover the subject and then you can decide. I did my new car 2 years ago. I practiced on my daughter's car first but I didn't need to do that. If you do go for it and you live in Houston or somewhere hot then wait a few months when it is cooler and the humidity is lower. You will need an enclosed place like a garage to do it, that would be preferred.

Grab a decent kit. Do it yourself.

Some of that $2,500 quote is likely to relate to the paint correction needed for a comprehensive ceramic coating process.

You could DIY without the paint correction, but it might be risky depending on the condition of your paint.

You mention ceramic waxes. I use Chemical Guys HydroSlick. It's NOT a ceramic coating. But it does have protective and water beading properties that exceed those of "regular" waxes. I've been really happy with it.

Never done ceramic but I read that Ceramic doesn't last forever. doesn't it have to be professionally removed before it can again be reapplied? If it lasts a few years, do you still wax and polish on top or is it totally set it and forget it? Why not do a quality zaino job regularly and call it a day?

Professional removal is just doing the same thing that you'd do before applying. Clay bar and paint correction. It's not hard to remove. I screwed up when doing the windshield on my current truck and had to use a glass polish to remove, then reapplied.
